OMG I LOVE earthquakes and miss them! Growing up in AK we had them all the time then back in 2002 we had that really big one. That's the only time I have been scared. In my former life I wanted to be a seismologist so it's a hobby I have. I sound a little creepy don't I? Vicky, it's the earth's way of saying happy birthday |

I didn't know the UK had earthquakes either. You thought your little Gypsy was making the sofa move????:yelrotflm That must be one strong Yorkie!!!:D |
Oh hey! Just found this thread. How spookey and fun at the same time. I've been in a few small earthquakes. Nothing to worry about, just enough to crack the bathroom sink once. And during college, it cracked our dormitory right in half. They had to strengthen the building with steel butresses! That was odd. Did Gypsy do anything strange before the earthquake? They say that animals often know when these things are going to happen. Glad ity wasn't anything really bad! |
Here is the news of the earthquake last night... it was really bad in some parts and someone was injured! :( http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7266136.stm |

Glad you and your family are OK. Greetings to you across the pond from New York! |
yikes! Ive felt one before it was about 350 miles away in NY but I felt at my apt in MA. It was a crazy feeling... almost annoying bc the shaking was sooo monotonous and lasted for about 30 seconds. I was sleeping and it woke me up and in my grogginess I didnt have the slightest CLUE as to what could be shaking my bed in that way! Glad you are ok! |
I felt it too! It's my day off today so i was sat on YT till just after 1am. I felt my chair vibrate underneath me...i thought it was odd and sat there for a couple of minutes trying to work out what it was...we have a busy road at the back of us but at that time in the morning there is little to no traffic...then i thought it must have been something to do with the Airbase here...so i thought no more of it until i saw the news today! |
They are very scary to me. Glad your alright. We had one big one many years ago in NY. Woke me up in the middle of the night. The bed was shaking and I ran to get the kids and dog. The whole house was shaking. Ran outside and all the neighbors were out in the street. Didn't last long but the memory of it did. |
I heard this on the radio this morning and thought of you! I am glad it wasn't too bad! |
I read it on Perezhilton, they said it was pretty big! The biggest in 25 yrs:eek: |

An earthquake hit the U.K., including London and as far as Wales, on Tuesday evening. With a magnitude of 5.3, it was pretty darn big. It is thought to be the UK's largest earthquake in the last 25 years. Hope everyone's okay! Vicky I am so glad y'all are safe! How scarey! |
4.7 is pretty good, as far as feeling it!! I have been in 4. 3 I felt like the ground was rolling underneath me like an ocean wave and the other just shook me around!! All very uneasy and a bit scary! Glad you are all ok! My mother lives at the top of a mountain in the San Francisco bay area and we feel even the ones the measure 2 points.....Im not sure I will ever get used to them!! Hope you dont feel many more in your lifetime too!! ;) |

when i felt the vibration i never thought about an earthquake at all! living near the Airbase i just thought it must be the rumble of the aircraft...and thinking about it..Pixie was asleep in her crate and around that time she woke up and was crying at my feet..so i picked her up and cuddled her and she was looking towards the window growling! I wonder if she sensed it? |
