I am sorry the horse was injured. But what kind of life had the dog had? His owner came over and shot it! He could have had him put to sleep. The dog was probably not trained or loved. I could not shoot one of my dogs for any reason. There are no bad breeds just bad OWNERS! I hope the horse has a speedy recovery. |

I have to agree with you!!! I've grown up around Pit Bulls and they are the sweetest dogs ever. Just like any other dog - if you raise them to be cruel & mean , then that's what you'll get. Here in Ontario they've banned Pit Bulls (I think - not too sure how that law went down ) but nevertheless, BAN THE DEED NOT THE BREED! I hope the horse heals up fast! :( Quote:
Ditto... as much as my heart hurts for the horse, its hurting for the Pit as well... who would shoot their own dog? Clearly you are not a good owner to have him on the loose like that, and become such a violent dog! I hate bad owners, I really do! |

I am so very sorry about this... I hope your son and his girlfriend and will be ok too. What a terrible thing to witness. I'm sorry but I have to add that people do have input on how these breeds turn out. You constantly hear about breeding for "temperment" - even with our Yorkies. People have been breeding these Pitbulls for fighting for quite some time and now it's out of control. Years ago it was the Doberman, then the Rottwiler and now the Pitbull. Yes, it can be bred into them. Of course, there is always the exception, but it's my opinion that it would take decades of "professional breeding" to bring back a decent temperment in this breed. I am a total animal lover but there is no way I trust any Pitbull anymore. BTW I don't hate the breed - just what's happened to them. |
I'm sorry about the horse:( I agree it is the owners fault. If a pit is brought up with love and only love and discipline in the right way it should never be dangerous. I know someone who has 3 pitbulls and they are all big babies, they never attacked anything or anyone cause they only know love around them. |
That is horrible! I hope the pit bulls owner is taking care of the expenses! But the poor horse! Can you imagine?? I feel so sorry for the owner of the horse and the other people that were there to witness this!! I will keep Trixie and her family in my prayers!! |
I don't ever understand the "it's never happened before"...like that matters... |
OMG, that poor horse - and how traumatic to then see the dog shot after all that. Horrible memories. WHAT is with all these pit bull attacks? |
Any new updates on the horse? |
Trixie Update & more info Trixie is at the Vet Hopsital on IV antibotics and will be for awhile...I have seen the photos & am horrified! I will try to get the disc & post them...the dog was hanging on her front leg for a mile down the blacktop before it let go...the dog ran home & the owner tried to shoot it & did not kill it...it then ran back across to the barn...the emerg vet, my son, his girlfriend & the barn owner were there...they tried to slam the barn doors when it came back, but it was relentless...I can not believe that my son jumped in & grabbed the pitbull to keep it from attacking Trixie again....He is so lucky...the owner had chased it back across the highway & was told by the vet to bring it down...they needed to take it in to check for rabies...he evidently wasn't a good shot the 1st time....my son is on the shooting team at college & he couldn't believe this owner couldn't even kill this dog with one shot....it was pretty horrific to witness according to my son & his girlfriend...it had a underground fence, but the owner must have cut the wires doing work & that is how it escaped.......costs are estimated in thousands for vet care!!! |
Ohhhhhhhhh that is horrible....I am sorry for all those involved. :cry8: Thanks for the update Kay! Please keep us posted! |
OMGosh! This is awful! I feel so bad for that poor horse and your son and girlfriend, who witnessed it and thank goodness they weren't hurt! Pit Bulls are not allowed in my city and I'm so glad for that! I'll say a prayer for that poor horse. I hope the horse isn't traumatized for life. Hugs to you! |
