How's Rusty today? I woke up with YT on my mind this morning, and Rusty in particular.

Just checking to see how Rusty is doing today.

Well, he is doing okay...he will have some pain every now and then, but he was out trying to chase a squirrel late yesterday when I let him out.

Today, he hasn't gotten out of the house, but once when I made him go out to use the bathroom.

The bandage the vet put on, kept sliding down and covering his wee-wee and hurting him...we could try to pull it back up, but it would just slide back down.
So we cut it off and use all the gauze and doggie bandage stuff I had, but I didn't have enough to go around his neck/arms to hold it up...so it looked just like what the vet had done...and today, it was sliding down...
I finally used some of the gauze and an old sheet and made my own bandage type thing to cover his booboo. It has been on all day! :thumbup:

I took some pictures...sorry, they are graphic....but I wanted to show it. You can see all the stitches and the drainage tubs sticking out of each end...and you can also so how the bandage kept slipping down...all the way off the booboo.

OMG, poor Rusty! I haven't even read through this entire post, I just had to express my sympathy for the guy. He must be one tough fellow. I hope he's doing well!

Well, I'm off to read on and see if you've found anything new out.

OMG, Jenn. I just saw this. Poor Rusty!! Those pics made my heart flip/flop. That must be sooo painful for him. What an awful way to learn about big truck bumpers. Prayers for a super quick recovery with no after-effects. Give him a big hug from all of us.

OH Jenn Honey.. I am so so sorry Poor Rusty has gone though this...I Feel for you. I went though something really similar with a Golden I had. That cut looks Really bad and Sore too. I hope he makes a really fast recovery

He is doing better today...he has his moments when he seems really sore and spacey, but then moments when he is hyper and jumping about like nothing is wrong. He goes back in by Wednesday -- we will more than likely take him in tomorrow (we are under winter weather warnings today, so don't want to get out).
The tubes are sooooooo GROSS! :eek: I had to put something on over them because they are just NASTY and plus, I think he would try to chew on them if they weren't covered! :eek:

Oh Jenn, your homemade bandage looks like it is holding up! Hope Rusty is doing better. Shooter got his staple & stitches out Sat. & is back out with th other Lab!!

Jenn -- I am so very sorry about Rusty. What a nasty cut!!!! It looks like barbed wire. We don't have any barbed wire fences, but I have seen plenty of b/w cuts on horses....

When the stitches are out and the incision has closed up, the emu oil will help to keep scarring down :). I am going to send you something that will help to keep the bandage on. Your package is going out today so you will have it soon.

I don't know how I missed this thread ......That was a horrible looking cut!!!....Thank goodness it was one of those things where it looked worse than what it was!.....I'm so glad for you and Rusty and that he his healing up nicely......It's to bad you couldn't find the source of the cut so you could possible fix or move the item......

Awwww:wub: Thank you Cindy...you are always soooooo kind to me! :love-hug1 AND that is funny that you mentioned the emu oil because I was getting ready to post if that would be okay to put on....I know when my daughters leg got a burn mark from her 4 wheeler, we put emu oil on it and it healed so much faster and more smooth (w/ little scarring) then if we hadn't used it! :thumbup: Thanks Thanks Thanks!

Rusty has been snoozing inside again most of the day...he was up SEVERAL times last night, so I guess he is tired today. He went outside for his bathroom trips twice and tried to help me load some wood onto the porch (since it is super cold here today)...the crazy boy!

I have him 1/4 of a pain pill last night, even though I didn't think he was hurting too bad...but I don't think it helped him rest since he was up so much.

Oh I'm just now seeing this. :( I am just speechless. I didn't get a chance to read through this thread but the cut reminds me of him possibly getting sliced from a wire fence. :confused: I hope that made some sense. It's about 2 AM and I definately need sleep. When I first looked at the picture it reminded me of a neighbors doggie a few years back. He was obsessed with a horse farm that was down the road and would always dig to go under the fence. One time he wasn't so lucky and got caught under the wire and got sliced pretty bad. He ended up being ok after a good bit a healing but your pictures reminded me of him so much. I'm so sorry about Rusty. I hope he feels better real soon. I know he must be in pain and having to see him that way I'm sure is very difficult. Hugs to all of you and a special kiss to Rusty.

We take Rusty in this morning....I hope all is healing well...doesn't seem to be bothering him much and it looks okay...I'm not saying good, because it is by far not pretty looking!:biggrin: I think it is healing up because sometimes I think it itches him...but once the stitches and tubes come out, I will put the emu oil on it and I think it will heal nicely.:xfingers:

I wonder how long it will take for his hair to grow back? Probably awhile, I am sure....

Wondering how the appt went...........

Hi everyone....we are back from the vet...well have been for awhile.

Our vet wasn't there and some new person was...maybe that is who DH dealt w/ and was not happy w/ last week....anyway, I didn't like them! They said "well you know...if he was fixed this wouldn't have happened"!! Rusty is the only dog that isn't fixed...and that is just because..well, we just haven't done it it. ---Anyways, who is to say that if he was fixed this wouldn't have happened, the other two dogs are fixed and they roam our 30 acres and our other neighbors 5 acre pond....which the other land by us is 100's of acres of forest....aurgh!

And they also said it looked more like a fence tear, but the vet tech said they didn't think so...that they agreed w/ our normal vet about a truck bumper...so who knows...I was not very pleased w/ them today!

Please, they only took out the tubes and didn't rebandage it...said to keep it clean w/ peroxide and keep a hot water bottle or warm towel, etc on it after we clean it.

THEN we go back in on Monday to get all the stitches snipped...luckly, all of that doesn't cost anything...so that is good.:thumbup:

Oh...and they didn't give us his rabies tag or paper when we picked him up on Friday.....so I didn't think they did that, but today they said they did and gave us all of the stuff....boy, I hope our normal vet gets back soon....I wonder where she is??!! :scratchhe

Anyway here are some pictures of Rusty in the truck going to the vet today!

We stopped by my parents on the way back....Rusty just loves my dad and I tried to get my dad to take Rusty (just because they are already wonderful buddies), but my dad won't...the silly man....NOT that we are looking to rehome Rusty (never)...but for my Dad...most definitely. Anyway, that was a nice "trip" for Rusty! He enjoyed it! :biggrin:
