World's Ugliest Dog!

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — The owners of the other contestants in this year's World's Ugliest Dog Contest may have thought their pooches had a chance — until they saw Sam.

The 14-year-old pedigreed Chinese Crested recently won the Sonoma-Marin Fair contest for the third consecutive time, and it's no surprise.

The tiny dog has no hair, if you don't count the yellowish-white tuft erupting from his head. His wrinkled brown skin is covered with splotches, a line of warts marches down his snout, his blind eyes are an alien, milky white and a fleshy flap of skin hangs from his withered neck. And then there's the Austin Powers teeth that jut at odd angles from his mouth.

He's so ugly even the judges recoiled when he was placed on the judging table, said his proud owner, Susie Lockheed, of Santa Barbara.

Ohh wow, He is defenitely the Winner of the World's Ugliest dog contest. WOW, she really have to love him to kiss that poor face. The poor pooch is old also.

Awww, poor little baby. I mean, every dog needs love from a great owner. But, I get scared very easily and if I were to wake up to him.. I'd probably scream!

His eyes look like they could glow!

AAaah! Are they sure that's a dog?!?

I had seriously considered a chinese crested before we got Tinkerbell. If that's what they look like when they get old, forget it!

That is sick!!! The poor little thing looks like the demon dog from he**!! I actually like Chinese Cresteds except I've read that their skin is very sensitive. My daughter's friend has a powder puff one. That's one with fluffy hair. He's adorable.

oh my gosh!! do they all look like that when they get old??????? who the heck would enter their dog in the world's ugliest dog contest? aren't we all supposed to think our dogs are the cutest little things, of course that "dog" might be an exception!!!!! he is scary looking but i feel kind of bad for him. i don't think i'd be too quick to pet him though!!!!! lol

doesn't that dog make you love your yorkie even more? All yorkies are so cute....i feel bad for that poor dog....i would be scared if I ran into him in a dark alley!

Oh my gosh. I bet his mother even had a hard time kissing him goodnight. You know that old saying "Only A Mother Could Love Them". Well, bless his heart, I don't think that saying applies. Oh my, he needs an ambush makeover.

When I first read the title of this post I thought... "Wow Valerie is brave to be posting a pic of an "ugly dog" on a dog message board." I thought for sure we'd all be like "oh he's not so bad" yadda yadda yadda until I opened the pic!! :eek: Scared the heck out of me! That really is one ugly dog!

Ha, you doubted me! LOL. :p

I like what Joanne (jogi37) said - that seeing this dog makes us all-the-MORE glad to have the absolute cutest dogs in the world, hehe. (What she said before...but in my own words, lol). Right Joanne?

I write for the newspaper...and this article is going in our paper tomorrow. So, while at work today, a tempo writer was running proofs for tomorrow and came by my desk to show me this dog's picture! I about fell out of my desk chair!!!!!! (But managed to stay on long enough to find the article on yahoo and share it with all of my YT buddies!)

"People are always horrified when I kiss him. He may turn into a prince yet. He's definitely a toad," she said. "I always thought he'd be great on greeting cards or on a commercial for Rogaine."

Sam, who's pushing 15, has something of a cult following after winning the contest — and fans' hearts — for three years running. Last year, huge crowds gathered around Sam and Lockheed at a local parade and Lockheed said she received letters and calls about her pup for weeks.

"So many people have told me they've got his picture on their refrigerator. He certainly has a little cult following," she said. "I did years of professional musical theater and never achieved the fame Sam has."

Sam will appear in this weekend's Fourth of July parade in Santa Barbara, but the recent events may be the cap on a long, ugly career. Lockheed says Sam's now suffering from congestive heart failure, lung and kidney problems and has definitely slowed down in his twilight years.

Still, he enjoys regular gourmet meals of sirloin steak, cheese balls, roasted chicken and flan (so he'll swallow his multiple pills). He also passes occasional weekends at the Gaviota ranch of Lockheed's boyfriend, where the World's Ugliest Dog rides in the back of an ATV with his few remaining hairs wafting in the wind!

Poor guy. He so ugly he doesnt even fall into the "so ugly he's cute" category. I bet he used to be a handsome boy back in the day though. Its kinda sad they even have an ugly dog contest
