Our Golden Our golden retriever/lab mix all of a sudden cannot even get up to use her back legs. My h got home and he wasn't even going to call the vet. I called and he just took her in. I think they may have to put her to sleep.:( :( She is 12 years old and the sweetest, most gentle dog ever. It really makes me cry to see her not be able to move. I keep thinking about how she loved to play fetch with tennis balls. She's too big for us to get her in and out of the house to potty. I don't even know if she can stand long enough to potty. This is too sad.:( :( shoot, I thought I was in the other pets forum.... |
I am so sorry for your golden and for you. My Muffin got that way and I said I would NEVER let her suffer so I didn't. It was very hard on all of us. |
Omg, Teri, I don't know what to say because I know no words will make you any less upset. :( I'm truely sorry that she is sick. :( |
Ohhhhh, I am so sorry to hear this!!! I cannot not imagine how hard this is to see her this way!!! Hopefully, she will improve soon!!! |
I'm sorry :( |
I am so sorry! Nothing more heart breaking than seeing your loved one like that. I truly hope she will be ok:( We have a golden too and they sure are sweethearts. He is about 12 now too. |
Iam so very sorry:( |
A friend of ours dog did this same thing, after two months of him not being able to move and them carrying him in and out to go potty , he couldnt stand at all. anyways after 2 long months he came out of it and is running around like nothing happened. |
I am so sorry. I hope she gets better. Its so sad when our babies get older and something happens. I've been there. Please let us know what the vet says. |
I'm so sorry to hear this. We had a dalmation who went through a similiar thing in June. It's heartbreaking. I hope your golden gets better. |
Any news on what the vet said? I know my big black lab Luke has bad hips.....he can get down to where he can't get up. The vet said that with a $5000 replacement, he would be "somewhat" better, but not 100%....he currently is taking some pills (can't recall the name, but I know the vet tried several on him).....this helps...but we know that he will eventually have to be put to sleep too! Please keep us updated! So sorry you have to watch that sweetie in pain! |
The vet is sending her home with antibiotics and pain meds. They aspirated her joint(s) and want to do a zillion tests. They want to test for arthritis.. well, DUH of course she has that. They are running blood tests to see about infections. She doesn't have anything from ticks, which is good news. You know, at what point do you say no to tests and let her go? I can't watch her suffer and not even be able to get up to go potty. :( I am literally sick to my stomach. My h is gone long hours every day so I will have to take care of her. I can\'t carry her in and out of the house - she is really a big dog. I had to have my mom\'s dog put down because of the same thing. We\'ll see how she does on the meds and if she can get up at all. I don\'t want to prolong this if she isn\'t going to get better. It\'s just figuring out if she will or not. I just don\'t want her to suffer. That is not humane. This is really hard. Thanks for your thoughts and concerns. |
Terri, I\'m so sorry to hear about your golden! :( I hope she can recover! |
i\'m so sorry about your golden/lab mix. its so hard when the bigger dogs get older because you can\'t help them like you can help a smaller dog. :( i hope the anti-inflammatories help her a alittle so she can get around by herself at least for a little while longer. |
Don\'t they have some sort of slings you can put under their belly or more towards the back to help lift them? I\'ve seen them for helping bigger dogs get into vehicles, maybe something like that might help. My In Laws had a texas golden named Fritz and eventually he had to be put down \'cause he just couldn\'t get around anymore. I hope your golden feels better. |
