| ![]() I would love a good recipe for thumbprint cookies, I know mine won't be as good as my sister-in-laws(she passed away suddenly on 12-11-07)...but I'd love to try and make them for her husband and son for Christmas. Thanks in advance for anyone who makes a good thumbprint cookie...I will treasure the recipe for eternity.

| ![]() 1/4 C. butter 1/4 C. shortening 1/4 C. brown sugar (packed) 1 egg yolk 1/2 tsp. vanilla 1 C. sifted flour 1/4 tsp. salt 1 egg white 3/4 cup finely chopped nuts Jam or Jelly of your choice Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix butter, shortening, brown sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla thoroughly. Sift together flour & salt. Stir in 1/3 at a time. Roll 1 tsp. dough into balls. Dip in slightly beaten egg white. Roll in nuts. Place about 1" apart on ungreased baking sheet. Press thumb gently into center of each ball. Bake 10-12 mintues or until set. Fill with chopped candied fruit, jam, jelly, or tinted powdered sugar icing. Makes 3 dozen cookies. I haven't tried this recipe, but my DH swears by it ![]() Happy Thumbprint making!

No Longer a Member | ![]() I started my christmas cookies today. We made pizzelles. I'm pooped already, but I still have a long way to go. Going to make the following Cocoa snowflakes (the kind rolled in powder that crack when baked) peanut butter cookies with red and green sugar Vienna tarts (rich cream cheese pastry tartlet cookies with apricot jam) Frost bites (orange spiced oatmeal raisin cookies dipped in white chocolate) gingerbread lemon squares (but I'm gonna cut them into diamonds or triangles) sugar cookie cutouts Peanut butter/chocolate marble fudge with red and green jimmies Is anyone else out there as anal as I am about their cookies? LOL! ![]() |

And no...I'm not that anal about the size of them, but I am a freak about frosting the sugar cookies...I'm the artistic one and have a fine arts degree...meanwhile I was frosting with two CPA's and a psychologist- NOT so creative!!! ![]()

I still have to make chcolate and peanut butter fudge, montacados, and gingerbread. Maybe caramel popcorn too, but I'm not sure yet. Last edited by mistyinca; 12-19-2007 at 08:01 AM. |
