Knifes down (so I don't stab myself later) and the rest up. |

All down in out house too. |
Linda.....all down in our house. I thought I read somewhere a while back to put up so that they clean better but I like to put mine down so that when I take out of the dishwasher I'm not touching anything. |
I have been putting them up but I think I will start facing down. I never even used my dishwasher for 16 years. I didn't really have a lot of dishes and I wasn't exactly sure how to load it.lol |
I reason I too put them down is due to when taking them out (clean) I won't be touching the part that goes in someones mouth. And #2.........don't wan't to stab myself with the knives like grayxie said!! lol |

HAHA! This is so funny. My husband and I always go back and forth about this :D :p I put everything facing up - EXCEPT the knives. Those I put in facing DOWN so that I don't stab myself in the hand or cut myself. My husband hates when I do this though because the pointy tips of the knives get caught in the little silverware holder thing...and then they end up scraping the bottom of the dishwasher and getting stuck when you try to pull the bottom "rack" out (where the plates ago). It IS annoying but I'd much rather deal with that than having a hand that's sliced open  |
Knives down and everything else up. |
Knives down everything else up. |
All down here. Much easier to grab and put away, plus you're not getting germs all over the piece that goes in people's mouths. |
Down for us too :) |

everything down - no germs the concern when removing them |
Spoons and knives down, forks up. Not sure why though. Just habit I guess. LOL I also put all the spoons up front and the forks and knives in the back. :) |
Knives down. Everything else up. U can take them out with out touching them. I just want to make sure all the residue is washed off the part we put in our mouth. |
knives down, all the rest up |
I like them all down, especially knives and forks. My hubby had the forks up once recently and I poked myself when reaching in to put them away. |
I put ours downward b/c the water shoots up from the bottom (I think:rolleyes: ), so I want to make sure it contacts the part we eat off of. I do occasionally put some things upwards like spatulas b/c they won't fit otherwise, at least in the silverware caddy. |
I put ours all up except knives, cause I'm the one that unloads and i take care not to touch the part that goes in the mouth when I remove them. However, when I lived in an apt with 3 other girls, I always put them in down, bc I didn't trust them to not touch the part that goes in my mouth, and they wouldn't wash their hands before emptying the dishwasher. |
 I'm not sure, the dishwasher isn't home from work yet so I can't ask him till he gets home which way up he washers things.... :D :p Wish we did have a dishwasher though, the detergent strips the skin off my fingers and I hate wearing gloves in water so my BF does all the washing up... we plan on getting a dishwasher one day though. |
Knives down, everything else up. I also seperate them. Knives in one compartment, spoons in another, forks in another, etc. |

Everything down except knives. I put all steak and sharp knives in the back section towards the back of the dishwasher. That way, not one gets cut. |
All up in our house. |
i always put mine down. i am afraid of stabbing myself with forks, plus, i don't like to grab the part that people stick in their mouths :) |
All of ours are facing down, EXCEPT for the bigger spoons, knives, tongs, etc...they go on the top rack. And...I do not put like items together...like all spoons, etc....I make sure they are all mixed up, so they don't "nest" together and not get cleaned....although, putting all the spoons together would make putting them up easier.... |
