Athiest Movie...The Golden Compass Atheist Movie Headed to Theaters This is TRUE as noted at: http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/compass.asp There will be a new children's movie out in December called "The Golden Compass", staring Nicole Kidman. The movie has been described as "atheism for kids" and is based on the first book of a trilogy entitled "His Dark Materials" that was written by Phillip Pullman. Pullman is a militant atheist and secular humanist who despises C. S. Lewis and the "Chronicles of Narnia". His motivation for writing this trilogy was specifically to counteract Lewis' symbolisms of Christ that are portrayed in the Narnia series. He wants kids to denounce God and Heaven but he does it in a very subtle way that parents may not pick up on what his true intentions are. Clearly, Pullman's main objective is to bash Christianity and promote atheism. Pullman left little doubt about his intentions when he said in a 2003 interview that "my books are about killing God." He has even stated that he wants to "kill God in the minds of children". It has been said of Pullman that he is "the writer the atheists would be praying for, if atheists prayed." While "The Golden Compass" movie itself may seem mild and innocent, the books are a much different story. In the trilogy, a young streetwise girl becomes enmeshed in an epic struggle to ultimately defeat the oppressive forces of a senile God. Another character, an ex-nun, describes Christianity as "a very powerful and convincing mistake." In the final book, characters representing Adam and Eve eventually kill God, who at times is called YAHWEH. Each book in the trilogy gets progressively worse regarding Pullman's hatred of Jesus Christ. "The Golden Compass" is set to premier on December 7, during the Christmas season, and will probably be heavily advertised. Promoters hope that unsuspecting parents will take their children to see the movie, that they will enjoy the movie, and that the children will want the books for Christmas. Please consider a boycott of the movie and the books. Also, pass this information along to everyone you know. This will help to educate parents, so that they will know the agenda of the movie. |
I have gotten sooooo many emails about this movie!! I have a ton of "mommy" friends and none of us will be taking our children to see it!!!! Shame on Nicole Kidman!!!! She has children...why would she star in a movie like this? Glad you started this thread!!!!!!! |
Thank you for making this tread. I myself don't have skin kids but I do have a lot of friends that do and I will be letting them know about this. I myself was not aware of this but then againg I haven't gone to the movies in over a year. |
Wow. Thats crazy. This movie is already being heavily advertised on Myspace also. |
Give me a break. As if a movie is going to convert children to atheism. |
wow. now you see, i want to read the books just because of all the trouble its going to stir up just to see for myself. |
I watched the trailor and it actually looks good, but it may just be a good trailor. I don't have kids, so I might watch it. I won't let it change my views on things though. |

btw, you avatar threw me!! LOL I keep trying to wipe it off my screen! |
I don't like that they're making a movie like this. I heard that there's a character called 'God' that gets killed at the end or something |
I've been seeing commercials for it and thought it looked interesting, but now I will not see it, just as I and my kids didn't see any of HP movies. People against the true God have very subtle ways of getting through to children - using media to the hilt. I'm glad my kids are not small anymore. |
Well the books have been out for years...I plan on reading them myself and have already reserved them at my library..he has written a ton of books.. Dawn |
wow i am not going to go see that how horrible that they are targeting kids:( im definatly going to tell my whole family were seventh day adventist and when the narnia came out the whole church went together to go see it but this is unbeliveble:eek: |
This author can possibly "kill God" with a movie or books? I know most kids have lost their innocence and may read into it. Maybe God could be "killed" in their lives, but God would never die in mine. I will be letting my sister know about this movie, and let her be the judge on letting my nephew see it or not. Good thing I don't have children. |
How does anyone know left if they don't know right? What would a Democrat be if there were no Republicans? How can anyone know god without also exploring "no god"? In other words, if we don't look at all sides of things - including the opposing sides - how would we ever find the middle? To each their own. This is either a brilliant marketing scheme, an educational opportunity, or one group's view. Now I'll HAVE to see it just bc of the potential for opinions based in censorship alone. :D |

I like your way of thinking ;) I guess I am in the middle..I am agnostic..NOT to be confused with atheist...I remember the outroar of angry parents when Harry Potter came out and my kids are no worse for wear from watching it..actually they are past Harry Potter now...and probably wont want to watch this one either.. oh my. :( |
I think a lot of people read WAY too much into FICTIONAL books and movies that come out. First it was Harry Potter - exposing kids to witchcraft...okay, it's just a book and now movie..just stories. Not any different than most Disney fairytails out. Then there was the Davinci Code..churches all over were having sermons about how terrible it was and not to believe it. Okay...again a FICTIONAL book/movie..maybe even a theory somewhat..but like I said, FICTIONAL. No one was trying to prove anything by the Davinci Code...just something interesting to read and consider. Now we have this movie...again...FICTIONAL! Just a story! I guess there's going to be series of sermons over this movie now too... I just don't understand why people get so upset about a fictional movie and then try to disprove everything about it. BTW - there is nothing to disprove with a fictional book/movie because it's not factual - it's made up (ie Fiction) |

agnostic..NOT to be confused with atheist I don't understand the difference. I know what Atheist is, it's the other that confuses me. Does Agnostic mean you are undecided? |

Ok well I see you edited your post but to relpy it is not a "supposedly" atheist movie it is an atheist movie here is the link that I got in my email about the movie this am http://snopes.com/politics/religion/compass.asp |
I didn't even know that movie existed. I don't think my kids will be brainwashed with that movie. I hope that the things that I will teach them will carry them through life and I wont have to worry about sheltering them. I've never seen Harry Potter, not because I think it's going to make me want to be a witch, I just thought it looked corney. If my children wanted to read that I would allow them to because I hope they would know fantasy from reality. Harry Potter is fake. I'm Christian and I believe in God and Heaven, but I've always liked reading up on other religions. Not because I wanted to convert, but I think it's interesting. I had friends of all religions or even no religion at all. I had straight friends and non straight friends and we all got along great. Even though I wanted to drag them all to church with me on Sunday, I always found their beliefs interesting. I wouldn't be upset if my children had a diverse group of friends either. All of my friends were welcome in my parents home. So to get back on topic here, I don't think this movie is going to turn my kids against God. If that was the authors point with the book, it wont work. If the child is going to be turned against God by a movie, they could be turned against Him in numerous other ways. It must not of taken much to change their minds. I don't appreciate a movie like this made, it wont be allowed in my home. Not because I think it will turn my kids atheist, but I just think it sounds tasteless. Sorry for the vent.....LOL :) |

An agnostic believes that the nature of God and/or supernatural are unknown and unknowable by human beings, if they exist at all. An agnostic thinks it is impossible (at least now, with our current understanding of the nature of the world) to conclusively know the truth about the existence of God and the afterlife which Christianity and other religions are concerned with. If you ask an agnostic "Does God exist?", possible replies might include: I don't personally know. I can't give an opinion because we can't prove the existence or non-existence of God given currently available knowledge. I can't give an opinion because there's no real way to know, with certainty, anything about God. Anything's possible, but we can't assert that God definitely does exist, or that God definitely does not exist. It is beyond our capabilities to prove anything about God. An agnostic is different from an atheist, who believes, with certainty, that God does not exist. Agnostic means, literally, "does not know" (from Greek: the prefix a- means "not/without" + gnosis means "knowledge" |
I also wanted to add that I was raised a Christian and chose my agnostic beliefs as an adult..I also let my children decide as to what they believe..I wouldnt love them less if they decided to believe or not believe in god..its a personal choice. My husband is RC and loves to call me an atheist because I wont conform to his religious beliefs...but I just cant and wont.. |
