My mobile grooming My mobile grooming is going really great! I have been kept pretty busy with it. For the past month I have been getting calls like crazy. Usually I'm semi booked for the following by the end of the current week but I don't have any customers for next week. :( That was when I was hoping the most to have a solid booked week for financial reasons. I ran a special online through a classified ad for $5 per dog if booked for the next couple of weeks. I don't want to sound desperate but I want to attract some new customers. What is some good creative ideas? I have my cards out and about and I have flyers out too. Hmmm...trying to put my thinking cap on. |
No real ideas for you unless you want to pop on down to Florida and do my three. :p Good luck with your new business! |

Maybe have a special after 10 grooms, get the 11th free. Or you could even put a coupon in the paper for $5 off. How much are you normally charging? |

Yea I was thinking about something like that as well. I am charging for a Yorkie $25 if they are within our city limits and $30 for surrounding cities. Do you think that's high? I paid $25 for Tilly to get groomed before I started grooming and she wasn't mobile. I just don't want to rip anyone off. |

Will the local vet offices let you leave flyers in their waiting room? also I would check around and see if your library or churches have a bulletin board that you could put a few up on. Good luck! |

I don't think thats high at all for mobil! I pay $30 at my groomers. Do you supply all the grooming products? How long does it take you to do one dog? |

You know - what about an introductory price to get your clientele built up? I know you don't want to turn people off by too high prices, but you also don't want to set your long range prices too low so you don't make it. So how about advertising "new client" prices good for the next three months or through 2007 or something like that. That's what the wireless and internet people do.... give you a low price for so long and then put you on the normal price plan. |

Yeah I supply everything. I have a grooming table and a portable tub. Since I'm still learning it takes about 2 hours to do a dog. Most of my customers have been really pleased that they can sit on the sofa and watch me groom. I just clean up my mess when I'm done. |
I am glad to hear its going well |
Maybe you could run a special to attract more people in? I sure wished you lived closer, I'd love to have a groomer who comes to my home. I haven't seen anything like that here. Do you have flyers at vets' offices and pet stores? |

Oh awesome idea. I pay $35 for Alphy and tip $10 because I love them and the attention he gets. They are great. I'd totally pay more the for convenience of someone coming to my home who was good with my dogs. I'd expect to pay at least $40 for Alphy and more for Abby. Good luck with your venture. I like the ideas of the introductory price and/or the buy 10 get one free or something like that. |
I think your price is very fair, and like the idea of giving so much off after so many grooms. Can you put up flyers in Petco, Petsmart, etc. with 5.00 off the first grooming, or and add in one of those free newspapers that they send out everyweek. |

Thanks! I love that idea! When we get some extra money I'm going to call the newspaper to see how much it would cost to run a special in the paper, like a coupon or something. :) |

I think you should definitely charge more. Here it is $35 for a yorkie groom (maltese, shih tzu),$41 for a poodle or Bichon, and like $40-something for a cocker. That includes a bath, cleaning out the ears, expressing the anal glands, nail trim, and groom. If they are matted, it's more. BTW - these are store grooming prices, not mobile. Mobile grooming prices are normally higher than store grooming because you are coming to them...and you're having to pay for gas. Here is a link to a mobile pet grooming service in dallas, tx. you could always call them and ask for a few price quotes to get an idea of what other mobile groomers charge. http://www.petlove.com/html/prices.html |

So for example, if you raised your prices beginning in 2008, you could consider any of your 2007 customers as your original base and either not raise their rates or raise them very modestly as a "thank you" to them. It definitely gives you favor in their eyes - so the appreciation goes both ways. I think you're doing a good job getting started.... you just need to be creative and fair. |
I think your charge is very fair, i think you may even charge more. Is mobile grooming where you go to their house and groom them there? Or you do it in a van or something? Idk cause in the city we don't have that. I know groomers here charge like $60 for a Yorkie from what i've heard. But i live in a big city so i can understand why you would charge less cause you live in a small town. I think your price is reasonably. And i agree with what someone said about a special. You should maybe have a free groom after someone gets their dog groomed 5 or 10 times. Where i get my eyebrows done they have that. They give me a card and write down everytime i go in and after the 10th time i get a free one. Good luck!:) |
If I was you I would charge a little more, Gas is high. |
my groomer charges 40.00 for gino and 55.00 for my bichon here in Fishers....he is excellent though....where do you live in Indiana? |
I think once you build your cliental then you should be able to raise your prices. You should be getting more money since you come to there home. |
