Prayers needed for hubby...STAPH again! What we thought was a spider bite on my husband's thumb has turned out to be another staph infection. This makes 4 times this year. He was hospitalized back in July and took meds through an IV. We thought that would have knocked the infection out for good but it's reared it's ugly head, yet again. Please pray for us. I had him on my insurance but the rates increased so much that I had to drop him. He doesn't have insurance right now...doesn't start till Jan. 1st. Just for one doctor's visit (this past Friday) and meds cost us $250...plus he has to go back again today.:( |
I'm sorry, I will keep y'all in my prayers. I saw on TV that staff is going around in the hospitals and schools. I didn't have insurance there for awhile so, I feel your pain! Hopefully he won't have to go back again til he gets insurance! |
We will definitely keep him in our prayers. |
Oh gosh...sending prayers and positive thoughts to you both. Hope he gets better soon. I hear you about expensive insurance. I currently pay $154 biweekly to cover the five of us and just got notice that it's going to $195. So I feel your pain. |
Kimberly, I am so sorry the infection came back. Those staph infections are buggers to get rid off. Prayer's coming that the meds work this time around and his spirits are high. Medications are just to expensive. The pharmacutical companies are out of control. All they care about is the almighty $. It probably cost them $5.00 to make the meds and they go and charge the poor person 250.00 who needs it. Best wishes to him and hope his recovery is swift. |
Kimberly, sorry this is happening. Staph infection is so hard to get completely rid of. I am praying for you guys and hope he feels better soon. |
Praying for your husband. MAybe you can contact the drug mfg and see if they have a discounted program for people without insurance? |
I'm sorry to hear this! :( Hope he gets well soon.. Prayers to you and hubby! |
btw,, maybe you should look into 'private insurance'. Initially, it will be costly, but it may be worth it if the infection tends to pop up time and time again. |
I'm so sorry to hear about your husband having a staph infection. I'll say a prayer that it goes away for good this time! Sending you hugs! |
I'm a teacher and MRSA has been going around the sports teams- it is a staph and is often misdiagnosed as a spider bite. It can be really dangerous - did they do a culture before they put him on antibiotics to make sure that it wasn't something other than a bite? I'll keep him in my thoughts and prayers :) |
Detailed And Graphic i had a staph infection they said that we have stuff all over our skin so when we shave or something and knick or cut ourselves the staph can get in there and cause an infection. I had one that started off as a tiny pimple like bump and went to being huge. I went to go have it looked at and they decided to burst it. they gave me two or three shots in it to numb it but it was just sooo infected that it wouldnt even numb. Not even a little bit. So the doctor got this razor blade looking thing and just cut it right open. Let me say the bump was as big as a quarter. IT hurt like hell because i was being cut open deep with no numbing medicine and then she said she had to pop the puss bubbles in it and started sqeezing. then she stuck this long piece of gauze inside it for it to drain and i had to go back and have it pulled out. It was really bad and i hope it never happens again. She said theres nothing you can do to prevent it she said it just happens sometimes. |
Thanks for all of your good wishes. Well, they're sending hubby to a hand specialist tomorrow. Just to walk in the door is $200. Our poor savings account is being drained so fast. |
Darn Kimberley! 4 times this year! :( Your poor hubby. Staph just SUCKS. I had it a few years ago on the side of my calf...OMG - it got as huge as a baseball! I too thought it was a spider bite and actually let it go for a long time because I thought that's all it was. ALOT of people here had it around that time...it was just crazy! The hospital said that they had never seen such a bad outbreak of so many staph infections! Thank goodness I went in when I did, they said that if I would have waited any longer, I would of gotten blood poisioning :( By the time I went in to the ER, it was hurting me SO BAD that I could barely even walk! Be sure and tell your hubby to wash it every single day with Hibiclens (if he isn't already) which I'm sure if this is his 4th time for him to have it this year, you guys already know about this! Hope he gets rid of it soon! |

Kimberley, I am so sorry this is happening to your husband! I am praying that they will be able to get rid of it quickly and at minimum expense. Did you let your doctor know that he does not have insurance? Sometimes doctors (like hospitals) have two fee schedules, one for insured people and one for those who are not insured. It would sure be worth checking into! |
Kimberly...I am really sorry about all this...Just remember there's always light after the dark tunnel...I am keeping you and your hubby in my prayers and hopes he gets well soon:lovewings |
I feel so bad for your hubby. A couple years ago my sister kept getting staph infection, and no matter what they did it kept coming back. Finally she went to an infectious disease specialist and I don't think she's had it for awhile, so maybe that's something to consider, or at least when he gets insurace as well...I know how that is too unfortunatly. You guys are in my prayers for both! |

He'll be in my prayers. I've been seeing a lot about staph on the TV and two kids in the local school system were just diagnosed. |
Prayers comming to you and your dh , I hope he feeling better very soon. |
Kimberly, I'm so sorry your family is going through this! I contracted MRSA staph in the incision site when I had aortic valve replacement last May. We fought it - in hospital and out, on very strong IV antibiotics - for three months. I was in hospital four times in three months. Each time we thought we had it licked, it would rear its ugly head. It's very nerve-wracking. I worried about my family contracting it, and about killed us with bleach! lol Yes, staph (even MRSA staph) colonizes on all our skin. If immune stystems are healthy, and we're not compromised in some way (surgery, or a cut where it can get inside), we go along just fine. Staph is everywhere - so the Infectious Disease team tells me :( . |
Poor hubby, hope they will be able to get rid of it for good, prayers coming your way ! |
Keeping your hubby in our daily prayers... |
OMG Kim I just was able to see this, hope all is well and I'm sending lots of get well wishes and prayers:) Bailey sends you hugs and kisses:animal36 GET WELL SOON!!!!! |
Prayers are going out for you during this difficult times. |
I read through this post rather quickly and may have over looked it, but the easiest way to stop a staph infection is with simple handwashing. Just like life, germs-infection have a cycle that they go through. If you want to break the cycle you have to take something out of it. Hand washing does just that. It does not have to be with super hot water or anti bacteria soap. Use warm water and any soap,,,the trick is to use fricition when washing your hands and letting the water run down your wrist to your finger tips. Oh yea don't forget to sing your ABC's when you wash your hands. If you wear fake nails or a lot of polish germs tend to live under them...so if your nurse comes up with the best nails you have ever seen make sure she washes her hands and puts on gloves before even touching you. Thats my advise,,,,and take all of your antibiotics.... |
Hey Kim this is the first I am seeing this. I hope everything is going ok. I know insurance rates are crazy!!! I work for an ins co and its high just for me. We are keeping you and your family in our prayers! |
