Reputable Breeders in MA Can anyone recommend a good breeder in MA? Has anyone gotten their yorkies from either Clover Hill Yorkies or Shenanigans? I am looking for a yorkie and we live in MA. Thank you! |
breeder I do not know anything about Clover Hill, but have heard good things about Shenanigans...there also are some good breeders in CT if Shenanigans does not have any available... |
Thank you! Thank you! Would you mind sharing with me what breeder you used in CT? |
CT Breeder Hello, I am also from MA and have heard of Clover Hill (not sure how they are) and I know Shenanigans is a very reputable breeder. When we were looking for a Yorkie, we went with a CT breeder who had a pup available when we were ready. I can give you her name if you are interested. I know our breeder just had two recent litters so there could be something available soon. Good luck in your search. Annna Dog profile for Kiki, a female Yorkshire Terrier |
Breeder in CT HI Anna! That would be really great if you could give me her contact info! How long have you had your yorkie? Thank you!! Leighanne |

I'm looking for one too The clover hill lady said only older people with houses can have her puppies she wont sell to young people in apartments even if you show up with cash money. The country home yorkie lady sound more willing but expensive and i saw some other posts about her being a broker. Where in Ct do you go? |

Hi there ... if you look on Yorkshire Terrier Club of America .. she is listed under the section for MA breeders. I don't think she has a webpage at the moment. Anna Dog profile for Kiki, a female Yorkshire Terrier |
Thank you Anna.:) |
Shenanigans Hi MaryLynn, I picked up little Rosie from Shenanigans last Tuesday. She is amazing and so sweet!!!!! She is doing so great. Cathy was great. She doesn't have any puppies left right now, but I would definitely put your name on her list for next time. Also, I talked to Sherlyn yorkies who Anna recommended and she was great too! I think she just had puppies so she may have some left. Give that a try! Good luck and keep us posted... I'll post pictures soon of little Rosie! ~Leighanne |
Did you see any others? I've been looking a few weeks but being in the city with no car it's hard to get out to visit everywhere. I called a few HiHopes, Clover Hill and a Brazilian lady in Somerville. Country Home looks good, pretty house, but expensive. |
Thank you for your help. I have already spoke to the breeders you mentioned. Much appreciated.:) |
Where can I get one for $800 I can only afford $800 where can I get a good one? Why do they cost so much. Rediculous what they charge for a dog. It probably costs them $30 apiece for shots and they make all those profits. Not fair to the customers atall to make that much money. My firend has a male that i'm gonna mate with mine when I get one and get some of thsoe profits for myself. |
I didn't speak with anyone who would sell a yorkie puppy as low as $800. Also, most of the good breeders will require you to get your dog spayed. Be careful where you buy so you don't get a sick puppy! You may be better of saving and buying from a reputable breeder! |
puppydogweb My friend got a sick one from a place in oklahoma last year but the prices are alot better then here. She only paid $600 plus the shipping and her mother helped her pay for the vet bill after. That was almost $1000 but if that didn't happend she would have a cheap puppy still couple hundred cheaper than getting from these redicleus breders. $2000 is just too much. How can they make me spade her anysays? They don't know whether if I got her spaded, but that's good profits for doing nothing. |

I agree. The vet bills for pregnant dogs and puppies and the food, shots and gear are very expensive if you talk to any good breeder. Plus, you are not doing the breed any favors by buying and breeding a dog from someone who is an unscrupulous breeder. You will just pass on genetic issues. This is just sad! Why don't you save a puppy from a shelter? You can go on pet finder.com and see if there are any yorkies for rescue. That is worlds better than buying from an unscrupulous breeder. |

you definitely want to stay away from Country Home Yorkies. There have been nothing but horrible reviews about her and way too many sick puppies. There is a there called "BAD yorkie reseller" that is all about her. Also, stay away from Seashore Kennels. I had a horrible experience with her and an now finding out more and more bad info about her. Read the link below for more: CapeCodTimes.com - Kennel ordered to obey new rules |
We have a Yorkie from Clover Hill. She interviewed us when we went to see the puppy. I have 3 children (5,9,10) and they were well worned to be on their best behavior:D Well it worked and we have a WONDERFUL dog from Susan. I could not of asked for a better dog. We even have her trained to ring a bell when she wants to go outside to pee/poop!;) |

Could you also please send me the name of the reputable breeder(s) you speak of in CT. Thanks, Lee |
Hy, usually i do not answer to threads like this, referral should come from people who have experienced you. But some of the discussed answers here made me want to answer because as much as it is stressed by other members on how to choose a breeder and there are 'stickers" about it, we still see some people just asking because they did not have access to some information or did not want to read them. The stickers are there so i will just post some of the personal things we do to try to show some of you, specially the person who defended the "cheap puppy" why there is a difference between breeders. On our web site there is an entire page just about that. When we decide to breed a dog, if it was born here at home or acquired from someone else to vary the blood, we need to run quite a few tests to make sure the dogs are very healthy, free of genetic diseases, beautiful compared to the standard of the breed and have the best sweetest temperament compared also to the standard of the breed. I am trying to just put it all in simple words, also we need to have knowledge of the pedigree of the dogs. All of this, cost a lot money and time, and it is a work of passion. A single shot does not cost 30 dollars, it costs between 18 to 22 dollars here in MA, my vet gives me a discount and i only pay 14, but this is the least expense, do not forget to put the vet visit on top of any shot cost. vet visits in MA can cost somewhere between 46 to 78 dollars, and tests such blood work start at 196,00 for a simple organ screening. Not talking about xrays that usually go for that much a piece and we take a few, remember to always add the vet visit and waste charge plus any nurse fee's... a c-section here in Ma can cost up to 3500.00 plus the cost of taking the puppies to check ups and first shots. I know people from other states and some states the vet visit is only 20.00 and a c-secttion is less than 300.00. a health certificate here cost 76.00 and i see some states it is only 10.00. That may be one of the reasons the puppies are cheaper there, but also the other reasons are related to the first things i mentioned: are the health and quality of the breeding dogs investigated before hand? How many times the dogs are bred? Specially the females? How often? See, one breeding for profit only will breed their females several times in a row for several years. That is not the right thing to do. are the parents ever health tested? temperament? We do not ship puppies , i have imports, my dogs come and go, but in cabin with you is the best option with this breed. Young Puppies can not be shipped and they stress out most of the time . I see people advertising to ship puppies at 8 weeks old, often times my puppies are still nursing at this age and usually we only release a puppy to go home after 12 weeks old at least. I had people coming from Canada, Virginia and Maryland and California to pick up a puppy because i would not ship. Safety of the puppy comes first, a healthy puppy can get stressed out and become very sick very fast and Die if not helped right away, we see it on the news all the time. It is not a make-believe it is the truth. So that bargain puppy at 500,00 can end up costing way more and it is not worth the risk and the potential future complications. An emergency vet visit here in Ma is 226.00 just to step foot in the 24 hour hospital, and the final cost can go towards the thousands easily. Also we have a clear contract for health guarantees on all of our puppies, that covers BOTH, congenital and genetic disorders or diseases. Showing up with cash and walking away without a contract should also never happen or be an option if you are looking for a great healthy puppy. It is clear in our contract that either male or female puppy must be spayed or neutered before turning one year old, we do this not to be mean, but to avoid our babies, our precious puppies to end up on wrong hands of some unethical people. It is not to be mean. We have made mistakes before and ended learning from them that if someone wants a puppy from us that is how it is going to be. We do consider breeding rights on excellent puppies but that is only considered if we personally already know the breeder and they are experienced and like minded to our breeding beliefs. That is the reason good breeders ask you to spay or neuter and one looking for a great dog should appreciate this. I believe and know there are good and bad breeders all around the country and around the world. First thing one should be asking or saying is not how much a puppy cost, but , HOW MUCH IT IS A FAIR COST FOR A WELL BRED PUPPY OF SUCH BREED IN MY AREA. With that in mind, compare breeding practices, looks of the dogs, health, temperament and see if you can find what you like and want withing these parameters. I hope this can give some guidance to the people who will come here and read this thread. Also pay attention to what kind of reviews the breeder in consideration has. You know a tree by it's fruit right. Blessings. XOXO |

Having found a great breeder makes all the difference and my healthy gorgeous Maxx is a living proof of it. I have quite a few friends who own yorkies and some have experienced the very worse with their dogs, genetic diseases, puppies sent home too young , and i tried to advise whoever that compliments Maxx as i have seen some horror stories, but some people can only learn the very hard way. My hairdresser owns 2 yorkies, one she got from a puppy mill kennel, she paid 800 to bring him home and another 2000 to keep him alive, he is ok now but he has a very weird walk, he "skip and kick" when he walks. She has a younger yorkie and he is all good, darker richer color and beautiful. I found out she got them from the same breeder i got mine, smartpuppiepets, and she could not be more pleased. It was nice to see one of my Maxx relatives. If you research before you make a decision and know what to look for you can avoid heart aches and pocket expenses too. |
I also got my "baby-girl" from smartpuppiepets and can not imagine what my life could have been without this forum and some wonderful people here. I was one that started looking for a cheap puppy as i thought it was silly to pay for a dog, after trying a rescue without any luck, they would not consider me for a dog. I started looking online and at first my only concern was to make sure i would not get scammed. I found this forum and started asking so many questions and ended up reading so much good information i found out i would have to wait to get my puppy if i wanted one that would be healthy and balanced. I was lucky to meet one of the gorgeous yorkies from smartpuppies right here in my neighborhood, the owner gave me their information and i was on the waiting list until they had a puppy for me and i could afford one. She was so helpful and educated me about the breed and their needs and by her advice i planned for a health insurance with a wellness plan coverage that is accepted at most vets and i get to choose the vet. My girl is beautiful, sweet, healthy and well behaved. She makes me company and it is my best friend. Please stop looking for the cheapest puppy. I recommend my breeder and will go back there again with anyone looking for a healthy, gorgeous and happy yorkie. |
