Have you contacted the breeder you got the baby from???? This looks like something ANY ethical breeder would jump on in a minute....If one of my babies ended up in this condition, I would take that baby and I would do something to get him the help he needs!! I could not watch the entire video you had up....it upset me too much....if that was one of MY babies, I would take care of the problem, and then you could set up some kind of a payment plan to repay me, or I would just keep the pup....there is NO way I could let this precious little soul exist like this. This looks like this is going to be a MAJOR financial burdon.....you need to contact the breeder, and either get her involved with this medical issue, especially of this is genetic.....or let that baby go to someone that can help him....this is going to be a constant $$$$ drain, I am afraid.....this could keep you "in a financial hole", I am afraid, in order to help this baby....

I have been in contact with the breeder. I have stayed in touch with her since I got my first one Toby from her. We talk all the time and I send her pics of them growing up all the time. We are working together with her vet, my vet, and Auburn for a solution for him.

And the breeder is not doing something immediately? How sad.
Honestly, if you cannot raise the money, perhaps you need to start thinking of rescue? No disrespect, but yard sales are not going to raise the kind of money your puppy needs right now. I am sorry you are faced with your problems, but it looks like he needs a neurologist now, not later, and usually there are many expensive tests that need to be done.

You need the funds to get this baby to Auburn, and the breeder, even if she has been breeding for 50 years and has never had anyone, anywhere, in her breeding program, end up with this affliction, she is LOOKING AT a product of HER breeding program NOW! She needs to "get some skin in the game', she needs to be financially involved! Until this is accurately diagnosed, by a specialist, then all this is nothing but guessing and hypothesising, and is of NO HELP to this baby. Vaccinations are a GREAT scapegoat!! We can quickly blame EVERYTHING that goes wrong, on those dastardly vaccinations....but realistically, you MUST have an accurate diagnosis. Vaccinations quickly shift the blame and responsibility from the breeder to YOU and your vet....which is just fine, IF IT IS TRUE!! My cousin has 3-6 family yard sales, and they have come out super.....their highest earner was close to $7000.00!....but then divide that down between an average of 6 families, and you dont have hardly enough to cover the diagnostic testing plus the on going follow up testing that this baby needs to have. I really would ask you to seriously consider allowing someone with the financial means to help this baby, have him to do what they can....If this was my baby, and I had no money to put towards medical expenses, and I couldnt find anyone that could see that this baby get the care he needs, I would have to really consider options that are not usually within my realm of consideration.

I don't see how further testing will change the initial treatment plan. JMHO.

No, that is simply not true...and honestly it looks like no one knows exactly what this pup has.
There are MANY different treatments for pups with neuro issues besides steroids and personally I don't believe in just throwing a steroid (or any med for that reason) at symptoms. That's what is happening here...I would simply not allow it for one of mine.
Without knowing the diagnosis, no one knows what is happening to this poor puppy. Is he in pain? Does anyone know? Proper neurological exam is in order imho.

I am so sorry you and your Colby are having to go through this. I hope the steroids you have will start to work. I am praying for you all.

Steroids relieve symptoms...they do not cure the underlying disease. Like giving Tylenol for a fever....yes it will bring the fever down, but WHY is the fever there in the first place??? Is there an infection, because if there is, steroids will NOT cure the infection! Pup may feel good, look better, feel better, no fever.....but whatever is causing the fever, is still there.....there is still no definitive diagnosis, just guesses from the vets, etc....

So one should withhold treatment until a diagnosis is made? It can take days to weeks for test results to come back... in the meantime the dog suffers and dies from brain swelling, high fever, bloodloss, infection or whatever?

I agree KJC. You have to get something going in the interim to help the immediate problems. You can always change the treatment.

No one suggested that. :rolleyes: But, what I will go out on a limb and say is this: I believe this puppy is at high risk of many horrid things happening if proper care is not rendered sooner rather than later.

I am not going to banter with you over what I believe is proper veterinary care. I know what is appropriate in MY home...don't know about yours or anyone elses. I merely suggested what I strongly believe this poor poor suffering puppy needs and deserves.

I might also add that to my knowledge, steroids don't treat infections and blood loss.....
I guess what I am saying yet again is that diagnostics are important in treating dogs....just as they are in people.
