sad news im new to yorkie forum....i got a 11 week male yorkie last sat named boo boo. full of energy and very playful....he started to get sick sun with vomiting and diarrhea..he passed away thurs...im devastated....i took him to the vet and vet said it might of been paro virus but i feel like he must of had some internal damage when he fell on my kitchen about four feet from a friends arms....can a yorkie die from a four and a half feet fall? |
I am so sorry for your loss. :( |
That is sad. I'm sorry for your loss. I don't know about the fall. I guess it all depends on if there was any damage. |
I am sorry for your loss. As soon as a pup shows signs of being sick or are dropped then should got to the vet as soon as possible because they are so little they go down hill so fast. |
So sorry for your loss as well. How devastaing. Max had a fall when he was 13 weeks but it was about 3 feet. He was wiggling so much as I was going to put him down and fell on the tile. He cried a bit and I took him directly to the emergency vet because I had read so many horror stories. He ended up being just fine but you can never be too careful with the little ones. I am not a vet, but those symptoms do not seem related to a fall. He was probably sick when you got him. It is very important to alert everyone that your baby may have had parvo. I hope you get answers soon. Hugs. |

I'm so sorry :( |
I do not let anyone hold my dogs. If I have a change of heart, THEY MUST SIT ON THE FLOOR AND I SIT RIGHT THERE, WATCHING OUT FOR MY DOG....They struggle, squirm, and wiggle sooooo much, and people tend to have a lax hold on the dog....that does not work with a small pup.....I have known personally of two such incidences, and the fall did kill the pup, one died immediately, the other two had internal injuries secondary to deacceleration injuries...ruptured spleen, intra-abdominal bleed, etc.......We learn from mistakes, lessons hard learned........I am so sorry about you loosing your baby..... |
So sorry for your tragic loss... |
OMGOSH, how heartbreaking. I am so so sorry about what happened. I hope you find out the reason why he died. :( |
so sorry for your loss. You just cannot take your eyes of these little ones, anything can happen in a split second. |
I am so sorry for your loss. |
sad news thank you everybody for the comments...i did let the breeder know and all her pups are fine...in fact i plan on getting another pup by her at end of june...this was a painful lesson....i still think about what may have killed boo boo...i guess i could of done an autopsy but it wouldn't of brought the doggie back...the weird thing was that about 5min after the fall he was completely normal running around and playful...the symptoms didnt show up until about 10 hrs later....let this be a warning to please not allow anyone to hold your pup while standing...i had to learn the hard way :( |
yes your right!!! i have learned |
I am so sorry... |
I'm so sorry for your loss. RIP Boo Boo. It is common practice to take a new puppy to the vet within the first 2 days of bringing him home to have his health accessed. I also always take mine in to the vet after any kind of a fall or accident such as running into a wall or door, or jumping and landing badly off the furniture. Puppies and dogs with vomiting and/or diarrhea also need to be seen by a vet within 2 days of the onset. They can dehydrate quickly which can also result in death. Again, I'm so very sorry for your loss. |
If the vet thinks it's parvo... your house will need to be cleaned thoroughly with a 5% solution of bleach and water. I would toss any puppy toys and bedding... just buy new things for your new puppy. Spray your yard with the bleach solution too (if the puppy went outside). Parvo can live in the environment for many months. |
Once again so sorry for your loss and again welcome to YT sorry you found us under such sad circumstances. Between now and June you will have a chance to read a lot on here about yorkies, I am assuming that this may be your first one, but even if it is not, you will learn a lot. I have had yorkies for 25 years and just joined here in Jan, I can not believe how much I learned in that short time, and LOL I thought I knew it all. Also take a look at how this forum is set up, I think in your grief and being new you did not realize that you posted your thread in the section where people post videos. There are lots of different sections for different topics, this helps the reader find the subject they looking for easier. I look forward to hearing more about the puppy you will be getting in June. |
yes, the vet did mention parvo....he already had his second shot and was due for his third parvo within a week...i quickly informed the breeder and she assured me that all her puppies are thriving and very healthy ....i do believe her..... |
thank you!!! i did not realize...im still learning how to navigate here |
Here's a link to puppy info in the YT Library: Puppy Care and Puppy Info Library - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community BTW: Welcome to YT... wish it was under better circumstances. |
I am so sorry... He should have gone to the bet after falling :( Think of how small he was... Thats like a human falling off the roof of a building! |

hi Donna yes i contacted the breeder and she says all her pups and dogs are fine and healthy...I thought it might of been parvo too but if it was then all her own personal dogs would of been sick too.he did have two rounds of vaccinations and was due for his last ones a week after i got him... |

I am so very sorry for your loss. I didn't know about falls either till I read these posts. I dropped my baby when she was about 16 weeks old and by the Grace of God she was fine. I hope when your new little blessing arrives he/she will help to ease your pain. |

thank you...only people sitting down will be allowed to hold puppy...people underestimate how strong they can be...the only thing that still bothers me is that if i felt he was injured at all i would of taken him to vet immediately..he didnt limp did not seem dazed...he was up and playing five min later...i guess i learned..... |
