Very, very cute!! :) Now, do tell, how can I get mine to go out in the rain? I honestly don't think an entire bag of treats would convince them. They think they are made of sugar and going to melt. | Yeah, that's another tough one. Rain used to bother Eddie more than snow, but he finally gave in when he realized he wasn't going to melt.
Jillie was a piece of cake. I got her at 12 weeks and knew what I was doing. I started by having her walk across all types of surfaces, wet grass, puddles, mud, brush. Then I treated rainy walks no different than any other walk and didn't make a fuss about it. No coats because it wasn't too cold. Rusty and Eddie helped, too, because she saw it didn't bother them.
If I was trying to condition an adult who didn't like the rain, I'd start in the backyard with LOTS of distractions. Treats, toys, maybe even other friendly dogs who don't mind the rain. Start with a short outing on a LIGHT rainy day, then increase the duration.
And always, always carry treats when it's raining. |
