How to tell a silky coat from a cottony coat
 
So many new Yorkies owners ask, "How can I tell if my Yorkie is silky coated or cottony coated?" Here's an instructional video. ;)

LOL, how cute, I've never heard it explained this way, why doesn't the YTCA have this information? Heck, I live in AZ, I'm going to have to wait a while before I can find out about Joey. :D

You gals are too funny. He did say it was a light rain so I figured the sprinkler would do.
I want to add that for a modified coat it will look in between a drowned rat look and slightly wet look. lol

You guys are cracking me up. And maggiesmom, good point! I will have to modify the video before the nationwide release of this important instructional DVD. :p Maybe I can even add a sprinkler scene for those of you living in rain-challenged areas. ;)

I think that should be a requirement before you try to sell your video to the AKC or the YTCA. It's only fair to come up with a universal test.

Mmmm think I'll turn the YTCA onto it...they may want to put it into their instructional library. Maybe a seminar at the next Specialty???????????

Hey Mike that means you'd have to get a Yorkie with a modified coat. Or borrow one. I'd lend you one of mine but I won't be coming to Alaska anytime soon. lol

Do they have specialties in Alaska? I think Mike needs to start local. Let's not release him onto the general public quite yet. I don't think we're ready for him! :p

Excellent explanation. I'll have to explain to my groomer that although Bug has a 'crappy coat' when it eventually grows it will probably be gorgeous and silky, because she definitely has the drowned rat look. She is over 1yr old and still the hair on her body does not grow, only on her head... Baby is a cottony coat that grows and grows.

You should produce more informational videos...love your models!

thank god they weren't in white t shirts....crossing the line into yorkie porn..

Mike, I loved that video and never thought of it that way but you're so right. My two silky girls Lindi and Mica look like drowned rats in no time at all in the rain. In fact it was pouring earlier this evening and they looked just like Jillie did in the film. Maggie on the other hand has to get really soaked to look like a drowned rat. I think she has a modified coat. ;)
