Airstreamer posted some adorable pictures of Tyler getting his teeth brushed, and this gave me an idea to do a tooth brushing video. Seeing his little mouth opened so wide really cracked me up. A few other people offered some pictures, and now we have a video of Yorkies promoting dental hygiene! Yorkies have a real problem with tartar, more so than other dogs, and we need to do everything possible so that they can retain their teeth. Tartar isn't just a cosmetic/bad breath problem, bacteria can lodge in swollen gum tissues, and cause heart disease and diabetes, not to mention early tooth loss, which cuts down on their ability to chew. I want to thank all the people who offered their pictures!

What a fun video to see...and such a great reminder to brush! I wish Maddie and Libby would cooperate as well as the dogs in the pictures. They fight me tooth and nail!

That was great! Wish mine were that cooperative. lol. They run when they see me with the brushes and toothpaste.

The trick is to make it a game lol.Let them taste the toothpaste , which is actually quite nice, dont ask how I know lol , then give them the brush to play with. Then add the paste to the brush and play like a tug of war. Shortly after that they will be bringing YOU the brush and you can get their pearly whites whiter.:D

OMG how super cute! What a great job...oh and the furbutts are so cute and with their squeaky clean teeth.:D

Izzy tolerates it and she is getting better. We just got ourselves a dental scraper for doggies and it seems to be OK..we also use the Petzlife gel and spray but I didn't see much of a difference so hoping that the scraper will do the trick.:D

A surprise ending!!!! LOL.

It was definitely cute....and that was before I recognized the last little doggie.

The entire time I was thinking...look ma! No cavities!!

Lol, I was trying to trick you to see if you watched the whole thing! "Look ma! no cavities", would have been a great name, dang, I've been racking my brain over that.

It's more likely their computers are programmed to block videos. A lot of companies block photo/video sites along with myspace, facebook, etc.

Yep that's it. Funny thing is sometimes I can but most times I can't.

I need to find a better toothpaste. Molly hates the one I have, and I have to admit it's such a struggle I don't do it very often.

How often should I be brushing her teeth?

My Vet recommends everyday. But if it's a struggle, at least 3 times a week.
I shoot for most days. We're probably at 5-6 days a week on average. I just make it part of the daily grooming session. I brush teeth first, take a warm rag and clean her face up (cause the toothpaste gets everywhere!) and wipe out her eye boogies. Then onto the grooming.

Thanks for the info. I've been letting her eyes slide too, so I'm going to have to hitch up my britches and get back on track. I used to be such an attentive Mommy!

Put a bit of doggy toothpaste on the brush and smoosh it in the bristles. then wave it in front of their face, and tease them with "wanna get it?" they will try to bite it, and then they think "hey this stuff taste good!" Then you hold the brush as they chew on it and move it around. Don't try to open their mouths with your hand, they will get mad. After a few minutes rinse and put the brush away where they can't get it. Then every other day or so go get it and tease them again. It becomes a treat instead of a chore. : )

Oh how I flew home tonight to see this video.
I was not dissapointed! It was so much fun watching all
those babies brushing their teeth. Priceless.
Nancy you did an awsome job:thumbup: Your so talented.
I loved it. I laughed out loud about Joey thinking about it:p
Thanks once again Nancy for taking the time to put something
so important together and teaching other's about dental
hygeine.:D

After my boyfriend and i lost our home, Uni is the last of what we've got. She is the reason we still wake up everyday. that is why I am soooooo into yorkies, and want to share what i have found out about them with everyone. yorkies have a bad rep sometimes, that they are hard to train, and that is totally untrue!!! it makes me a little happier if i can help someone out!
