house training the trained dog :animal36 :animal36 Hello everyone,:) this is my first time, I will introduce myself Iam lionking and currently in the uk. I have 5 yorkies and I golden german shepherd.: has anybody, had my problem which is, there are mum (4) dad (5) and the pups (2 1/2),well the yorkies never go all night without going out to the garden I can not remember when I had a good nights sleep, :( one of the darlings, Spirit usually wakes me up to go, but she can wake me at least 3 times, I cant complain as I dont want a wet patch on my carpets, never the less, why cant she hold it until the morning. as for her sister alice, who does not ask, I am unsure, if she is doing the puddles or if it is the mum, I have caught her once, recently. I have steamed cleaned that carpet and I have been wee free for a while, as I was tidying up the dog beds up stairs, somebody has had a long wee on their bed. Can you make this out, I stayed down stairs for all of last night, as I was not that well, of course all the dogs stayed with me........ not one dog got me up to go out side!!! what do you make of that. I am getting desperate, really because of the carpets, and the constant cleaning of them and also my husbands job, is shift work, and when he is on earlies, he is in bed early, every time the dogs get me up, it disturbs my husband, he is threatening to leave me and the dogs, and go and sleep in the spare bedroom, where he wont get disturbed. can anybody help, with genuine ideas please lionking:animal-pa |
Hi!! Welcome to YorkieTalk! I am not sure what to tell you, but someone should be able to help you, so I'll give this a bump!! ;) |
Welcome to YT!!:wavey: It doesn't sound like your little ones are crate trained, right? I wonder if instead of sleeping in the night, they get bored and as "something to do" ask you to take them outside. Mine always started out being crate trained, because it taught them that night time was for sleeping and that they could hold it until morning. If you don't want to crate train at their ages, how about limiting their area at night? To a bare-floor room or an x-pen etc? That might help re-train them that night time is free time. It may require a few nights of not responding to barking (better not start on a work night!). It would also limit the area that accidents could happen. That would be what I would try...... Let us know..... |
Get you an xpen, start putting them in that at night. Mine go to the bathroom at night, but, that's because all 3 of my inside dogs are pee pad trained, so, they never had to learn to hold it..yours with going outside, should be able to go all night without having to use the bathroom...keeping them on schedule, like you should a child, is the key thing. Take them out at the same time every day and night..We had an obedience trainer, he said it's NOT the dogs that make the mistakes, it's the humans..and he's very right..There are a lot of good websites on the internet that tell you how to housetrain them, but, until they stop doing this, I would confine them all at night..do they pee in the house during the day? |
Welcome. Sorry your having these problems. I would use crate training to get the matter under control. This way they learn when it's time to go in the crate, it's time to go to sleep. Hope your hubby get's over this. My hubby threatens to put a tent in the backyard.LOL |

what a good idea, I will start trying that, but as well as that, we are coming into our autum-winter, any my yorkies pups do not like going in the garden when its cold and wet, but they adore going out, in the fields when its cold and wet.no they never do anything in the house during the day, this is why its so mysterious, as if I have been delayed getting home for one thing or another, they never have accidents. they were pee pad trained as puppies and were using it as early as 3 weeks. yes your trainer was rignt, as I wanted to leave the puppies down staris as they got older, as we already have a GSD and the mum& dad, with us, but as I started leaving them down stairs from birth they would not have found it any different, they were sleeping downstairs, up until they were 6moths, so well trained, but suddenly one night, my husband"let them come up tonight, just one night wont hurt" & here we are today, thanks very much for replying and its a pleasure communicating with you all |
