Hello and welcome, glad you joined YT we would love to see pics of your baby. You could put a baby gate at the front door that way when you open the door she can't dash out. I had to do this for awhile til Lexi learned she is not allowed out front. |
Hi, and welcome! I agree with Lexi's mom. A baby gate has worked for me in the past. I really don't know what else to suggest other than scooping her up before you open the front door. She probably just wants to be in on the action. :p |
As a preventative measure, putting up the gate or scooping your baby up before opening the door will work fine. Doing some obedience training is the best solution, long term. Stay is a powerful command when it has been taught and practiced. |
I would teach her the sit and stay command. You do this with treats. Tell her to sit and use a hand signal and put her in sitting position if you need to then give a treat. After you get sit down then tell her to sit then stay and give a hand signal. Chachi learned this pretty easily and it does help. |
Hi and welcome to YorkieTalk! We, too, had that problem with Toto. We had great success by first teaching the "stay" command. After that, if she ran out the door, we put her in her X-pen and made her stay. Now, anytime we tell her to stay, she immediately drops to the floor and obeys!! ;) |
I keep a leash at the door and do not open the door till dogs are either behind a baby gate or on a leash in a sit position. |
Well I can not add anything new to this since everyone had some wonderful advice for you.. I think the baby gates are great.. Hope it works out for you.. Keep us posted on what methods work best.. Joy |
