It did not work! We're home, both soaking wet. He freeked out as soon as he went on the table and when the muzzle went on it got worse. He was scared out of his mind. I have never seen him like this before. She was so paitient but he would have none of it. I even put him in the tub but he would not let the assistant touch him. He was going after her with the muzzle on and salvating through the muzzle. I appoligized, took the muzzle off and put in on the floor where he became himself. He was wet, I was wet and it was a total disaster. The groomer said she would help me in any way she could. To call her if I needed guidance with the clippers. She told me what to buy. I hate to loose here. I really believe she is a gem. He has been brushed, bathed and groomed since he was 4months old. What happened? Do they change when they get older and become fearful? I know he does not like his feet touched because he was cut once by a groomer at Petco and I guess never forgot it. I can touch his feet with no problem. I will not tranquilize him so we left . I went to Petco bought a clipper, video and a plastic tablecloth. I will learn to groom myself. More work! I am not a happy camper at this moment. I am off the watch the video, bathe him and clip him. Two hours I would guess it will take. Wish me luck, I'm going to need it.:( Right now Bud's on my Sh - - list! |

Carole, Oh my gosh...makes me wonder WHAT happened the last time he was there. Dogs don't normally go from being fine at the groomer to being terrified. I'm not implying that she did anything wrong, just that something must have happened to freak him out. Here's an example. Ginger used to love, love, love going to petsmart. We went for training there when she was a pup, and she'd search for her favorite person (the trainer) from the minute we got there. Then, one day, out of the blue, a forklift came driving around the corner. Scared the "you know what" out of her. Now she's fearful at pet smart. TG she still loves Pet Valu...I can still take her along somewhere. I know you're upset and I would be too. It's frustrating when you've done everything right (taking him to get used to the groomer from a young age, etc) and they don't cooperate. If you decide to continue grooming him yourself, think of the money you'll be saving...and the one on one time you get to spend with him. And don't be too worried about how he looks the first time, it takes practice... Good luck! |
