Finally Have Our Fence Up!! 2 Attachment(s) Saturday we finally got the fence up for the furbabies!! It's not perfect, but we have never put a fence up before. My 16 year old son and I dug all the holes for the posts with a post hole digger. We are both sore, but me more than him...Boy to be young again....lol I still need to get some dirt to fill in where the pool was and then add some along the bottom of the fence. The doggies just love being outside. |
awesome...i can't wait until i get mines up.... |
Yaaaay! Doggie playtime at Janet's house!!! Can we come play in your new "dog park"???:) (that's what we call our fenced in back yard, doesn't everybody?) It looks great, and so peaceful!!!!! You can be proud, putting up a fence is HARD work! |
Awww, thats great............:D |

If you can't find any dirt, you could maybe use a tractor and shave some dirt from the nearby areas, and fill it in enough to level it out. YOu'll lose some grass and maybe have to seed a little bit, but if dirt is that hard to come by, that might be an option. That hole doesn't look like it would take too much. Now are you ready to stain your fence?(LOL :D ) If you don't stain it, I'll tell you what is a really easy way to protect it. Go to the hardware store and get one of the cheapest pump style insecticide sprayers (Home depot has one for $9.99). Fill it up with Thompson's water seal, and just go along and water seal the wood. |
Good job on the fence. It looks great |

Hey Misty, we have some dirt located, just need to wait till it's dry enough to go get it. It's in the southern part of our county and they got more rain than we did. Do I have to do something to the fence? It was treated when we bought it, but do I still need to do the water seal? I'll have no problem doing that at all and thanks for the tip with the sprayer! |
You don't have to do anything, but over time, it will lose its pretty golden color and begin to grey and splinter. Also, any sprinklers that hit areas will bleach out some of the wood's natural coloring. When we first moved in here, I loved the color of our cedar fence, and wanted to keep it natural. I did use the Thompson's, which lasted for a little while, but you have to keep it up--every year or so. I didn't, and it started fading, plus we had a huge white spot where one sprinkler hit it all the time. So my husband finally got out there and stained the whole thing. It is a big job though (especially since you have both sides of the fence; here in our tract home, the other sides belong to the neighbors on their respective sides). I think it took him several weekends to finish. |
fence looks great!!! |
Fence looks great!!! I'm sure they are so happy to run & play. You can always run landscaping timbers along the bottom to keep them from getting out too. Hope you're not too sore. lol |
Looking good! It's always fun to do a big project and realize how much hard work you put into, and then you appreciate it that much more! Very nice, and I'm sure your furbabies will love you even more for it! :) |
Janet - AWESOME!!! Playing Outside = Fun ;) |
Wow I'm impressed!!!! Looks great |
:good job: Impressive! I hear those "post hole diggers" take ALOT of strentgh and work! I gotta get on hubby's case on them for our house..we don't have a fence yet. |

Great Job!! We just put in a vinyl privacy fence :) My dad did 1/2 and we paid someone else to do 1/2. It looked tough! Our yard needs more work before the furbabies can head back there, it's all dirt :) |
:good job: I helped put up a fence last summer. It is hard work! You should be proud! |
that's great!!! I wish I had a backyard :( |
awww, that sure is a heck of slice of heaven for your babies to run around  It can accomodate a thousand yorkies at least :) Can Annika and Tiger come and play too as we don't have a fenced in yard :) Wow that is so much hard work, I hope you did not strain yourself. All for the love of our babies. Those wood fencing are really gorgeous but requires sooooo much work. We had one in our old house and as much as we try to keep resealing, in the end we just got tired after a doing it a few years . . it sure is too much work to maintain natural wood  I am all for vinyl  . . . maintenance FREE :) |
Piper and Penny want to know if they can come and play. |
wow, very nice!! Great job! |
Wow it looks very nice! |
Thanks everyone!! We love it! I have a blister right in the middle of the palm of my hand and it hurts so bad. I really wanted to make it a lot bigger, like the width of the garage, but part of it was the cost of course and the other reason we didn't was, I was afraid the birds of prey would see them easier. They have plenty of room though and they have a great time playing outside now. I'm going to try and see if I can train them to go potty more outside and use less pee pads. All of you are welcome to play in our new play area anytime!!! The more the merrier! |
It looks fantastic! And I LOVE those big trees in the first pic! So pretty! :D |
your hardwork paid off....it looks great! I bet your babies are loving it! |
Great job! It looks great! You did an awesome job........ and I know that your furkids will LOVE you for it!!!!! |
