Hello, I'm new to this forum but my fiance and I just adopted a 2 1/2 month old Yorkie puppy. She's tiny and we all love her to death though it's taking my bigger pup a little while to get used to her! (the dogs don't live together and we don't leave them alone together yet as of yet since Roo is so small!) My only question about her is why does she always stick her tongue out? Does anyone else's Yorkie puppy do that? I swear when I first met her I thought her tongue didn't fit in her mouth! I think it might be a sign that she's uncomfortable but she also does it when she's asleep so I'm not sure!

Aww, your Roo is just precious:) Lots of our babies stick their tongues out, not sure why, it's a Yorkie thang - LOL!

Welcome to YT! Roo is an adorable name and an adorable Yorkie. If I'm not mistaken, your fiance is sporting the "It's her dog" look. All of us guys do that at first. Next thing we know, we're talking baby talk to them and letting them lick our faces.

I don't remember if my guy's tongue hung out when he was a pup, but it doesn't now at 3 years old. Of course, my 11-year-old's tongue hangs out, but that's because he doesn't have many teeth left. Hmm, I wonder if puppy teeth are so small that they don't hold the tongue in?

Either way, it's nothing to worry about.

It seems to be more common that you realize, but most outgrow it. I think it's just a carryover from nursing on the mom and is a comfort for them. You may try just touching the tongue each time you see it and that could break the habit. She sure is darling and has a wonderful coat!!

my Hubster thinks nothing of taking Milo out and about dressed up and will even shoulder the leopard print carrier bag in public now.;)

Roo is soooooo cute, and I love the name! My Sukoshi didn't ever stick her tongue out (she's 8 months old now), but I think it's adorable, and I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. Have fun with your new bundle of fur!

Welcome to your little one, I'm sitting in the office looking at the pictures of the 3 yorkie's I've had, only one had a tongue that hung out, not always but a lot of the time. In the 8 pictures framed of him, only two show no tongue, so with my Martini it was a Yorkie thing..

Yes, the tounge out like that is a "Yorkie Thing". :D
Dixie did it alot when she was younger, but doesn't now.
I do know some Yorkies who are adults and still do it though.
Either way, I think it's very cute.
Roo certainly is ADORABLE!

Welcome to YT!!! Your baby Roo is just way too cute! Don't worry yourself about the tongue thing; like the others have said it is very common. My little Mango has done it since she was a teeny pup; she is now 6 months old and is still happily doing it.

Pleeeaaase tell me the big puppy's name is Kanga! That would be too cute!

But I guess she's cute enough by herself!:D When's her birthday? My baby was born on March 10, so I think they're about a week or so apart.

Aww thanks everyone for the welcome! Roo was born on February 14 of this year so she's actually almost 3 months now! She's still teeny tiny though (I think she's what you'd call a teacup though my book on yorkies says there's no such thing- maybe she's just a runt lol). I've really decided that for Roo at least she sticks her tongue out most when she's uncomfortable (she didn't start doing it this morning til I stuck her in the sink and washed her) but it's still so cute and I don't really want her to stop doing it =) Plus then I know when she's unhappy and can pick her up! The other thing I love about having a pup this small is her meowing- I swear she thinks she's a cat! It's so cute- I'm just hoping that the meowing doesn't lead to barking when she's bigger though I fear that that's a false hope- does anyone have a yorkie that isn't real yippie?

Oh and by the way no unfortunately the big dog (who's really not that big only 30 lbs!!) is named Taya not Kanga but it would've been cute =) Thanks again every one!

Sukoshi hardly makes a sound. I love watching her when the mail man comes, because she just mosies to the door and watches him - so opposite of what I've seen other small dogs do. That was actually my biggest fear about getting a small dog though because I HATE yappie dogs! I have a friend who has a Yorkie that I've never even been able to pet because she's barking at me and running the whole time I'm in her house! Sukoshi will occasionally bark when she hears something "strange", so she's still a guard dog for us, but that's maybe once a week at the most.

Hahhaha....My Bella is almost 2 and still makes "meowing" sounds...exspecially when she Yawns....Im always saying that she is part cat! She can jump like a cat too....always jumping way up high on things. She is very unlike my Louie though who is almost 3 and the mellowist little guy you ever want to meet...wont jump....just waits for you to pick him up and is always doing the cute little "tongue out" thing.......in fact, when I first got him he was 16 wks old and I thought he had "buck teeth" or something, but come to find out it was just a teeeeny weeeeny bit of his tongue sticking out......now when he is realllllllllllly relaxed he just lets it hang baby!!!! hahaha...here are a couple of pics.....I love it! Your baby is gorgeous by the way!!!!

stuck her tongue out. She wakes up every morning with a dry tongue!:D lol.

Neither of my girls bark much. If someone knocks on the door, or we have someone over they bark until they see who it is, and then generally will run up to them to be picked up! :D They do whine when in their crate, and they can see/hear us, but that's really about it. Lucy makes really odd noises though. If she's frustrated, or upset she makes almost meowing like noises, like you mentioned. lol!!! They're both precious, and I'd love them even if they were yippy. :D

I guess I was lucky none of my three were barkers, JD has a fit with mail coming in thru slot on door, and knocking at door, but once your in the house and he see's your allowed he's fine. Others were same way, in fact I think they were more laid back then JD.. I'd correct them when real noisy for no reason and they seem to want to please..
