Sam's First Tornado Siren! 3 Attachment(s) Well, this is Sam's first experience of us in the closet with the tornado sirens going off.... I have to keep them entertained while we are in there. Sam didnt know what to think. Martin, the Poodle, lays outside the closet but his leash always wrapped around my arm. And the other is Charlie...my good baby. He hears the sirens (even if they are testing) and goes to the closet. Behind me is all the pillows for our heads and our "tornado" bag. |
Can I ask why Martin stays outside of the closet? When we have the threat of bad weather I get Jo & Riley's kennels ready for them...I get some bottled water, food and a go-go bag filled with the important stuff like cash, jewelry, a few snacks for me and my husband's medicine. I always take a blanket and pillow for protection too. We've already had the sirens go off several times this spring and one afternoon they went off twice...we were working on the room addition with the air compressor and all the power tools out and the sirens went off so we put everything up and got the boyz. A short while later everything cleared up so we got things out again and sure enough...the sirens went off again...needless to say, we decided to quit for the day! |
Yikes! I don't know if I can handle tornados! I'd much rather live in earthquake country! So how did Sam handle the siren? He looks like he did well. |
[QUOTE=my2boyz;1108207]Can I ask why Martin stays outside of the closet? QUOTE] He hates it! I just let him lay right outside the door line so Im ready to pull him back in at a moments notice. He normally lays on his back and chews his leash. He just doesnt like being enclosed in there. He will come in there when I say his name in my "mean mom" voice but if he has to stay in there very long he starts wheezing, like he cant breathe. The boys bag has actually grown since Sam... and with it I have my stuff, camera, phone, cash, wallet, etc then small first aid, bottled water, dog food, etc. I think Im going to need to upgrade to a duffle bag. |

Sam did pretty good. Just had no idea why in the world we were in the closet... And was happy because I was letting him chew on some ballett type slippers  to keep him occupied. |
Last night was pretty scarey. Our sirens didn't go off, but the lighting was bad. I think at one point it was 653 ground strikes per minute. There was one very memorable strike close to the house at 3:00 am that shook the house. Talk about a wake up call. |
They do a great job of predicting where the tornados are and where they are going. I'll take them over the earthquake any day! When there is even the possibility of a tornado, all regular programing is cancelled and all TV stations show the weather. They have all kinds of software to predict based on wind shear and wind speed. They also usually have helicopters in the air watching them. The can tell you right down to the road and intersection where it is. Quote:

Plus, it doesn't help having your parents call you every 15 minutes checking on you. On Friday night my dad told me that he was proud of me and that he loved me. I was nice and calm until he said that...then the tears started flowing!!! |
Glad to see every 1 is safe and sound. your babies are very cute:D |
Ever since I saw The Wizard of Oz as a kid, I have freaked out about tornadoes! I had to travel to Wichita, Ks on a business trip once and I was scared the whole time!! They happen in Georgia too (where I live), but the ones you see on TV in the middle of the country look so monstrous, they scare the daylights out of me. |
Its absolutely terrifying because you never know what its going to do. |
