Lexy's Ears 1 Attachment(s) Hi, I need some help!!! Lexy's ears are down and I would like to make them stand up. I was told to use tampons but does anyone know how to put them on? I was also told to use masking tape and make triangles for the front and back then tape them together. Lexy is only 8 weeks old only one of the puppies ears out of a litter of 8 has his ears up. Help me please. |
Lexy is adorable and love her ears. I heard that you can trim the hair of her ears to help them stand up. Also I read that massaging the ears every day also helps. I dont know how to tape them but you can check these sites http://members.aol.com/CYorkie/TapingEars.html , http://glassyorkies.homestead.com/care.html. :aimeeyork |
Maggie's breeder did her ears at 8 weeks. Took 3 days for them to stand up. She shaved the backside of the ear, (top 1/3), then she clipped the edges of the ear (again top 1/3). She then folded the ear together, wrapped a skinny piece of gauze around the ear and taped it with masking tape. She told me that 99% of all Yorkie's ears stand on their own, but she likes for the puppies ears to stand when they get to go to their new homes. She also reminded me that their ears will go up and down depending on how they feel. She said teething, stress, etc. will cause the ears to flop, but will stand back up when feeling better. |
Thank you very much, but do you really think that you have to trim the sides or should I try and find a breeder that might do it for me? |

I use to shave the ears completely when they are pups . I don't tape it right away . |
wow...tampons...never heard of that. lol I don't want to think of how you are supposed to use them.. :p |
i am just wondering if it is time to tape or not? my little princess :aimeeyork is now 10wks old and her ears are down, should i tape or give them a little more time? also her ears will go up about half way when she is being prissy or excited :p but will fall when she is just playing or sleeping. her ears are already shaved my breeder shaved them at i think 6 weeks. and they are still pretty much shaved what should i do? tape or give it more time? i want them to stand i was wanting to maybe show her... she is champ sired and bloodlines.. |
:aimeeyork oh i also forgot do the ears have to be standing up in order to show them? :) |

Hi Sarah. Welcome to YT. You can try massaging the cartilage in her ear with two fingers. It worked for me! |

Yay for Lexy. Congrats on your ears being up. |
StewiesMom, Hello! I was looking at your male Yorkie on your YT avatar(I think that is what it's called) and your Yorkie is sooo adorable. I love the blue outfit! May I ask where you got it from? I will be getting a Male Yorkie and don't see that many cute outfits for him. Let me know. Thanks ~Bella & Maria~ |
Shaving the ears and massaging them is all we've ever had to do and it works great, just be sure to shave them below the bend in the ear. I've also heard the ears can go up and down until the puppy is done teething so don't get discouraged if they drop again. |
Hi remandsilk mom I understood that you place the tampon (minus the container of course) just the soft cotton inside, and use mini size...anyway, you put the tampon and curl the ear around it and tape it with the paper tape that surgeons use around the tampon and ear. With my german shepherd (we used supersize) we also put a popsicle stick between the two ears. |Looked ridiculous and I'm sure all her friends were laughing at her but it worked!) But for a Yorkie, I think that if you trim the hair they will probably stand up by themselves. By the way, you can use the old sponge rollers as well. Good luck. |

Ears up Hi, My little boy Billys ears were up when I had him at 8 weeks, they do look like they have been shaved, I have been told that if you massage them upwards this will help. :aimeeyork |
