My first time to post I am the happy people mother of a 2 1/2 year old yerk that I rescued last Oct. on my birthday to be exact. I have never had a yorkie before or should he has me. My husband has had them in the past. Well, my concern is that my baby won't have anything much to do with him. He will not go out for him won't eat his food if my husband feeds him won't come when he calls....etc. I call this little guy my velcro puppy. Toto is my constant companion whether I like it or not. The dog groomer I take him to for trimming says he waits on the chair in the window until I return watching evey one that passes just in case it's me. I am use to having larger dogs that are more family friendly. Is this usual for Yorkies ? Also I find that his coat gets what I call greasy looking. Is there something I can put on his coat when I groom him. Well that's all from me for now. Sheila from Dundas Canada:D |
Sometimes I think male dogs are "moma's" boys and female dogs are "daddy's" girls". If you would like your little guy to love his daddy the same as he loves you, then start letting the daddy feed, brush, hold, walk and so on this little guy and you stay kind of out of the picture a little more. Then you both share 50-50 with everything after about a month of this. It sound like he has not been able to bond with your husband because as you said "Toto has been my constant companion". Give dad equal oppertunity. ;) |
Welcome to both you and Toto. Sounds like he's a mommy's boy:D Don't worry that's a good thing. Buddy's is a mommy's boy and I love it. I am sure he will warm up to Daddy in time to come. |
Hi and WELCOME !! Tell your husband to not take it personally...mine is home 24/7 now but the girls are always with me.....the seem to 'latch' on to one person I heard & from my own experience it's very true.... and velcro is exactly the right word when it comes to yorkies :) |
