Is vet trustworthy? 1 Attachment(s) We have Sparky for almost one month. He is very cute and healthy. However, three weeks ago, we took Sparky to vet for getting his second shot, vet charged us $130 for that. And we took him to this vet again yesterday for his third shot. We told vet that Sparky vomitted twice in the morning, vet checked everything and said he seems fine. Then I told him that Sparky scatchs his ear a lot recently, Vet checked his ear and told us that Sparky may have ear infection, and we have to postpone the third vaccine to next week. However, when we went to the reception and got to know that we own them $120 for only 5 minutes, including almost $60 professional consultation fee. And we were told that next week, we have to pay exam fee again for the third shot (every time for the shot, we have to pay the exam fee) Does anyone can tell me if it's reasonalbe? Thanks! |
Yep that is about how it is for me all the time also i dont think i have EVER spent less then $100.00 at the vet no matter what i go in there for i always say i'm in the wrong profession i needed to be a vet. It cost me 456.00 to get jasmine spayed and she had 4 teeth pulled at the same time. usually if i bring both dogs i only get charged one exam fee but it is expensive |
If you're just doing shots you should find a shot clinic in your area where they don't charge the office visit fee. i know Banfield, inside Petsmarts, does shot clinics every Tuesday and you do have to pay for the shot, but not for the office visit. My vet is with Banfield by the way and they have "wellness plans" that cover all the shots, ear checks, teeth, spay/neuter, and pretty much any other routine things puppies need for 20 bucks a month. The start up fee was 99. If you trust the vet it's a good way to go. |
Good grief  when i see what u pay for vet treatment im glad i live in Holland, last week i took 3 of mine to the vet: Dounia, (our lab) had drops against kennelcough, Chelsey was microchipped and Chanel had her second set of shots for 97 euro. |
At my vets, if you are getting a shot you don't pay an office visit. When I have taken them in for other things, I think the office visit is only 25 or 30 dollars. Maybe you should call around and get prices from other vets, sounds like he is money hungry to me. |
Our vet charges a small fortune for everything. He is the only vet in the whole county, so he can charge whatever he wants and we have to pay  I was paying $17 for Nutri-Cal before I started buying it online, $10 for Esbilac Milk Replacer and he will sell the puppy shots and have one of the tech's show you how to give your dog shots at home...but he charges $20.00. I started giving my dogs all their shots at home except Rabies they go to the vet for that. I like our vet and he is a nice guy but $75 for an office visit seems too much to me, I don't care to take our dogs if they aren't acting the way they should or if I suspect something is wrong. Our pets go for a yearly check-up and that is it if we can avoid it. |
OMG!!! and here I use to bitch about my vet bills. For just shots they don't charge Office Visit but if I take them to get shots and have their ears checked then they will charge $26 or the office visit. I go to Vets For Less and they charge less because it's like a clinic where there's a couple of Vet Doc's and you see the one that is working that day. I think once I start breeding I may go to a privately owned vet so that I'll get to know the vet better and vise versa they will know my babies more personally. Wow $17 for NutriCal? Is there not a PetSmart or Petco near you? :( |
A vet tech can give the shots. There should be not office visit fee or exam fee. I pay $40 when the vet does an exam. I wouldn't pay what your vet was trying to charge. I would change vets. |
Wow some of those vet prices are expensive. Ouch! I pay $27 for each set of shots and around $40 for the one set with the rabbies. Those prices included a 30 min vist with the vet, the cost of spayed is if I can remember around $150. |
I feel so lucky...our vet doesn't charge an office fee. I really like our vet and he understands that my babies are MY REAL BABIES. He is great with them, but I have never had to pay an office fee. Curious |
I pay $50.00 just an exam , $70.00 for shots and let you imagine the cost for the medication for Zsa Zsa . She have a better life's quality . |
Find another vet...my vet recently tried to charge me over 300 for Silk to be spayed when I was just at the vet the week before and they told me it would be 200. I asked the receptionist about that and she was rude and basically told me that the price I was talking about was not possible. I said look you all gave me a sheet of paper with the prices last week and it did not total 300. She made me go home and get the sheet of paper and basically called me a liar. She told me that she did all the sheets and that the prices have never been 200. Needless to say I went home to get the paper...praying all the way home that I had not thrown it away...I found it and brought it back and let them no I would no longer need thier services. |
My vet used to be wonderful and loved my babies as much as me but now i guess they are to busy and dont really care as much i took jasmine to a different vet to be spayed b/c my vet wanted 695. And i know about "special meds" for a happier life my rottie had liver diease (sp) i added up all my vet bills once and they were over $7,000 in a year so i decided that i'm not going to add it up anymore lol what can you do they are our babies. Nala passed away last year at the vets office they drained 13 pounds of fulid from her tummy and she was doing fine so they called me to come get her while i waited in the waiting room with more special food and meds they came and told me she passed. at least she knew i was there to bring her home. Nala was also a parvo surriver. |
Your vet costs are way out of my league. I also live in a small farming community and that is just the way it is around here. A set of shots and a good checking over cost me around $25. Spaying costs me $45. My sister just had her dog neutered and it was $30. I love this vet!!! |
