No Thanks Mom.. Does anyone have any helpful hints for clipping a Yorkie's nails when he wants nothing to do with it and suddenly developes the streangth of a Rotti when you try? |
I took mine to their vet when they were really young ....but now that they've gotten a little older - I do their nails myself - with Cheri - I wrap her in a towel and take out one foot at a time ...she doesn't seem to mind it so much this way - Hope this helps a little ...they REALLY hate their nails done and act like they're in a torture chamber don't they ? for my vet they were little angels... |
Our yorkie was the same way, so my husband started waiting until our baby was sleeping and he would clip them then. |
I've heard some people have good luck clipping their nails while they're in the bath too |
it's the dreaded nail clipping day  About to put Giz in the bath, heard it would soften the nails a little to make for easier clipping. Wish me luck, I'm goin' in...... ;) |
Good Luck |
Will Gizmo lay on his back in your lap? Our last Yorkie was totally relaxed while on his back...that's the only way we could do his nails. Good luck! |
Well it started storming before giz even got out of the tub. He is so afraid of thunder, the shaking and all. Just didn't have the heart to put him thru the nail thing. It's the next morning and still bad weather. Maybe we can get to it after work tonight. Poor baby just clicks all thru the house. |

Ok we have 4 clipped nails so far. Gonna give him a rest. Have just noticed the vet missed a dew claw last time and has formed a circle. I'm @#ssed . Will go in from the side and clip. |

It's amazing, isn't it?! The thing I love is that they've gone through the whole nail-clipping routine before and lived through it each time, so what do they think is going to happen differently this time?! I heard that a good way to warm them up to having their paws touched is to rub their paws every time you hold them. I've heard this suggestion for puppies, so I would assume it would work in older dogs. The vet once told us to just do a few at a time and praise the dog every time they sit still. That seems a lot easier said than done, though! I helped clip my sister's beagle's nails this weekend and I swear she was close to having a heart attack! Her nails may not look like they've been clipped, but my mom and I have the scratches to prove it! |
I know how hard it is to clip the nails. I always end up all scratch cause she tries to run away. I even try when she sleeps but I guess she is a lite sleeper cause she always wakes up, :(. I even try when she was in the bathtub and ended up soak, lol. My son always helps me to clip her nails but she still moves so much, and a couple of times I cut her nails to short that she bled. I felt so bad cause of it. My husband even got mad at me, like I cut her on purpose. I already felt bad and he made me feel worst. Im going to see if the vet will clip her nails next time. Good luck with the cliping. :aimeeyork |
This is one part of being a mama I don't care for. Besides the scratching you got the nipping at you. Does not like his feet being touched. Even worse for the vet...so we will just finish this and he will have to "walk it off." ;) I'm not hurting him he just won't BE STILL!!! Grrrrrrrrrrr |

When do they grow the dew claws. Maggie is 14 weeks old. I just felt inside her little legs and there is nothing there. Not even a nub. Thanks |
