Hi Everyone I'm New!! 2 Attachment(s) Hello! My name is Celeste and I wanted to introduce myself and my yorkie Gucci. He is about 5 months old and I love him to death. I don't have a picture of him to post yet, but I will soon. I joined to get some help from people who have yorkies and know what to do with them. I got a few problems with him. I've had terriers in the family before, but mostly mixed and not any yorkies. I know they are hyper, and that he is young, but i'm having a really had time training him. I tried housetraing him, by having him do his duty on a pad, but that didn't work so know he goes outside and it works much better. The BIG BIG Problem I have is his biting. Not the furniture, but me and everybody who wants to hold on to him. His baby sharp teeth hurt, and I just want him to be cuddly and nice but he is SOOO MEAN!! I spent a lot of money on him and I'm just frustrated that he won't listen and nobody really likes him. I thought about getting rid of him, but who can get rid of a yorkie? Sometimes he is so good but that only lasts about a day. Sorry this is such a long first post, but I'm going crazy not knowing what to do. Could someone help? Thanks so much, Celeste and Gucci :aimeeyork First on is recently second is when I got him |
welcome to YT! yoy will find alot of helpful people on this forum. |
Hiii, my baby bites my toes allll the time, but if I pick him up and calm him down he stops and just licks my face. |
When I pick him up and carry him he is fine. But he usually tries bending over backwards when I'm holding him to bite my fingers. I'm not talking about just a little nibbling, but he has drawn blood several times. When I get him fixed will that help? |
Welcome to YorkieTalk! I see your a Texan, too! There are so many people from Texas on this board, lol Fred is young and bites my fingers all the time! He used to bite hard when he was a puppy but I got advice and bought something called "Bitter Apple" from PetsMart and put it on my finger. He bit it and instant reaction, he stopped biting for a little bit. He's starting to bite again but just gently and not too hard. |
Hi and Welcome!! I am sure his biting will start to taper off when he gets his adult teeth in and he is past puppy stage. When chachi starts biting we put a stuffed toy in his mouth to distract him. The older he gets the better he is doing with that. Best of luck with your puppy! |
Hi there! Welcome to YT! :D When Lucy used to bit we would tell her 'no'. If she kept doing it we would give her a time out. We put a high gate up on the kitchen door so she was then shut away from us. In the end I think it was a combination of that and growing out of it. I wish I had known about bitter apple when she was a pup as it does sound a really useful deterrent to stop them doing it in the first place :D |
Hi and welcome to Yorkie Talk. Gucci is adorable, at least in the pictures! He is still a baby and it is important to start him out on the right foot and correct any negative behavior. A firm "NO BITE" when he does that and then putting him in his "timeout" place will usually work for that. It doesn't last long as long as no one is playing aggressively with him and encouraging him to bite. Kids (or husbands) will sometimes tease a puppy and he will get aggressive to defend himself. Don't get discouraged. It all takes time for everyone to adjust. I am glad he is getting housetrained. Good luck |
Hello and welcome!!!! You have such a beautiful baby!!!! I am sorry I don't have any advise except be stern when you say no and give him something else to bite!!! Can't wait to see more pics and hear more about your baby! :littleang :littleang |
Welcome to the world of a Yorkie. Your posting sounded like I had wrote it a few months back. My Zoe' is 6 months old and still bites, but she has learned what the word "NO" (said harshly) means. There were days that I would cry and wonder if I wanted this dog or not. I stuck it out with the help of others on this website and now, well I'm in love with my baby Zoe'. She has literally saved my life. She still bites some, but not like she use to. Tough it out, you can do it. Zoe's mom |
Thanks for all of your advice, I've been doing the NO and timeouts for a while before I got on this board, and it's helped some. I love looking at other yorkie's they are soo cute. Yesterday while I was getting ready for work, Gucci was running a race track around the house and would then run up to me trying to get in my lap. He jumped up there and just sat in my lap watching what I was doing. It felt so nice just for him to sit there and not want to bite. I'm falling in love with him more everyday because slowly he's becoming the dog I want him to be. Thanks for everybody's help. It's alot of fun talking to other people that have a dog like me that want to help with problems, and praise these adorable dogs. |
what a cutie pie... |
