another Gizmo I have a Gizmo also. He was 6 mos. old on May 7. Some days he is a handful but sooo much fun and I love him dearly. I tought him to hit the bell to let us know it is time to go outside to potty. We are still working on it but he makes it outside about 80% of the time. He loves chasing the cats around the house and teasing them. I really dont think they like it much. Phyllis |
He is a cutie, my Lexi likes to bug my cats also.... |
Welcome, Gizmo! What a smart little boy to ring the bell when he needs to tinkle! Look forward to seeing more pictures of ya! On a side note, Gizmo and Bentley MUST be the most popular names for Yorkies on YorkieTalk, there's at LEAST 3 or 4 of each... :) |
Phyllis, Can I ask you what kind of bell; where did you attach it; and how did you go about training him to ring the bell. Maggie is only 11 weeks old, but very smart. She will go a sit at the back door waiting for somebody to put her leash on, but doens't bark or anything. Would be nice to teach her some sort of attention getter. |
I got the bell at a craft store. Its a large bell, then hung it with pretty ribbon. I used the hook that can be removed (just in case it didnt work). Every time I took him out I hit the bell with his paw and said go potty. The very next morning he hit the bell all by himself. NOW if he needs or wants to go out he will jump like a crazy pup hitting. I keep treats out on the porch and give him a very tiny one as soon as he is done. Here are some photos:1-the bell just high enough for him to stand and hit, 2-this is how we started, 3-porch is fenced so he cant go in the big yard alone. See the treat container in the top corner. He will go potty then come sit and wait for his treat before going in. We live on the lake so our back yard drops off in the lake. So I just gave Giz one of my flower beds. |
Welcome to yorkietalk!!! Good luck with your Gizmo!! |
