Whos baby has the longest hair (pics required) I thought it would be neat to see exaclty who keeps their hair the longest, and what are your secrets to grooming so well?? |
3 Attachment(s) Here is my Easy. Each dog is different and so you have to try different things to know what works. She has a great silky coat and would prbably grow no matter what i do to it. I was her with Pantene for fullness Shampoo, then Mane and Tail condidtioner and the Neutrgenia bady oil in her final rinse water. I never brush her dry and try not to mess with it between weekly baths. I have not had to wrap her yet, but now that it touches the floor just started to this week. This should also help her muzzle hair to grow more. Main thing is to keep them clean and don't dry brush them. I also use a pin brush no slicker on her! And she nevers goes into the grass. Have you ever taken a close look of a blade of grass, They look just like your kitchen knives. Ouch!! T. |
Very Nice, my dog's hair is always a short puppy cut. I let it grow out one time and don't know if I'll ever do it again. I love that silky straight look, Kodaks hair is kinda wavy. |
Easy has my dream coat! I would love for my boy to have hair like that...........thanks for all the tips too! Jess |
Your baby has a beautiful coat. I hope we get there one of these days. Carol & Buddy |
T ~ Easy is lovely. When you say you "don't mess with it between baths" does that mean you don't brush daily? Oh! And how old is Easy, here? |

1 Attachment(s) Thank you all so much! Yes, she does have a dream coat. Very silky and so easy to grow. That is right I do not mess with it between baths - no brushing. If she starts to look like hair is not straight down or it looks like a mat might start - I just use my fingertips to gentle pull it apart. But remember - and this is very important - she is in oil all week. This is why I do not have to mess with her daily. Now that I have just started to wrap her for show - I must undo the wrapes everyday and spritz lightly with conditioner and then brush into my sections and back in new wrap papers. Make sure though it is not wet. But I have just started this a few days ago. Up until now - it was only in the oil. I just fill the tub with warm water to their knees and then add in one capful of the neutrgena body/bath oil and swish over her coat. Then drain water out and spray lightly with regular water to wash off any extra oil. Dab with towel - do not rub. Brush out coat with pin brush and then blow dry. That is it till the following week for her next bath. Easy! I do have to add - a lot of it has to do with genes ~she has the growing long coat/silky texture gene for sure. Good luck! T. |
Big sigh ....what a gorgeous coat she has ! |

1 Attachment(s) Yorkie rule - don't brush a dry coat!! She was 21 months in photo and she is only 22 months now! How old did you think she was? She just had a litter too 3 weeks ago and so far so good. I want to have her back in the ring this next year with her handler. T. |
I have 2 boys, brothers from the same litter. They could not have more different hair. One has a coat that is shiny and could grow long but its not very soft, however it is very straight & shiny and grows out beautifully. I would have kept him long except he pees all over himself and stinks ALL THE TIME!! 1 hour after a bath he smelled like pee. I finally gave up and got him a puppy cut. My other boy has wispy fine wavy hair. I tried to grow him out but he was MATTED soooo badly. Even with daily brushing and weekly baths and conditioning he got matted right to skin by just sleeping on my lap! I couldn't keep up with their hair so I ended up getting puppy cuts! For my boys, I think it looks cuter anyways, and its WAY easier! No more peeing on themselves, no more smelling bad, no more brushing, no more mats. Its just me taking care of my boys and I work during the day, so at night I want to play with them and give them love, not brush them for an hour each, every night! Im so glad I got them cut! |

About bathing: I can see pat-drying; but, honestly - how do you keep her from flying through the house, rubbing herself dry on everything!? I'm sure that can't be good for the coat :( . Thanks for the responses. |

I blow dry her right after I dab the towel on her. She is not let loose in the house till she is completely blown dry. Here are some photos of her at 11 months (1st shot) and 9 months old in 2nd photo. They are not very good photos, she was not cooperating and was right after her bath. At that time she hated bathtime. Now - she is great getting her bath. LOL T. |
