Haircuts.... I've decided I want to give my yorkie a haircut at home. I'm not sure how though. Anybody have suggestions? I went all over the internet and all I could find was a video that you have to buy that shows you how to give your yorkie a haircut. I've been told to take her to a groomers and watch them groom her, but I'm trying to see if there is any other way to give her a haircut at home. Does anybody have a suggestion at what kind of haircut? Like a puppy cut or teddy bear or whatever else? |
I cut chewy's hair myself... I saw a good web site let me look for it and see if i can show it to you... Be right back! |
i'd like to know to lol |
Please, if you're going to do this yourself, be really really careful not to snip the ears or tongue by accident with your scissors! Those little tongues can dart out pretty quickly! Good luck, and remember it's only hair - it will grow back if you happen to mess up. Practice makes perfect! |
2 Attachment(s) Well this is not the web site I wanted but it may help... I took rounded scissors and closed them, and ran them on Chewy's face first to show him how the felt... i also would snip around his head with out really cutting the hair first to get hm used to it... Chewy is very good for me when I cut the hair by his eyes... But make sure you cut awayfrom his eyes... be ready for sudden movments and just be careful. I hold chewy by the back of his neck while cutting his face and he doesn't seem to mind. the first time I cut his face hair over a few days... bangs or eye brows one day, sides of nose another day, around the eyes another day. he only lasted a few min each time... it is best to have some on help you hold him. My 18 year ols daughter is my assitstant! LOL... Here are some pics of chewy afer his hair cute...Let us know how you make out! http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...859-1%26sa%3DN |
Here's a video for sale on grooming yorkies... if you click the sample it shows a guy cutting the hair around the eye... it might help! You have to scroll half way down the page to get to the Yorkie part... http://images.google.com/imgres?imgu...859-1%26sa%3DN |
Thanks! I'll look at that website. He looks cute! I'll be careful. |
I came across a web site not long ago that had actual diagrams with arrows showing which way to cut, especially around the face. Sure wish I would have saved it. I think Giz would look cute in a puppy cut but afraid to tackle it, and what to do about the hair on top? I will keep looking for the site, if anyone knows of such it would be appreciated by us aspiring do-it-yourselfers. ;) |

http://www.ytca.org/grooming_clips1.html I would order a video though. I have one and plan to watch it several more times before I do a full grooming job on my two. I cut my first Yorky's hair a couple of times but was never comfortable with the face and legs. So, hopefully with the instruction video and some of these sites I will do better this time around. |
