New Member Hello my Name is Cynthia. I am a former foster mom for abandoned and abused dogs. We have a 13 year old Pom, a 16 year old tabby cat and our new edition, Mya a now 3 month old yorkie. Most of my experience has been with Poms and s**tuzs We have had our "Mya little darling of Brampton" for two weeks. So far she comes when called, sits, uses her piddle pads or goes out, fetches and pretty much listens. She is a smart little girl. We consider ourselves to be very lucky. She is social with people of all ages and other animals. We try to take her everywhere we go to help socialize her. I would like to get her more socialized with other dogs. It is hard to be brave at times considering she is 2 pounds and fearless! We are just working on her walking on a leash. I have enjoyed reading the postings and finding myself learning more and more everyday. Hi Mya's mom, welcome to YT!! Sounds like you have a very special little Yorkie. She does an amazing amount of things for three months. Wish I could just get the potty pad thing down. Did you teach her all those things yourself? |
Hi Mya's mom, welcome to YT!! She sounds great, I would love to see pics of her... |
Hello and welcome. I think you will find that there are tons of great people here and more info than you could possibly imagine. I love it here. Everyone is great and very smart. |
Hello and congrats on your new little yorkie! You've come to the right place for info and friendly, helpful people! Looking forward to seeing pictures of Mya! |
Thank you for the warm welcome Thanks to you all for the warm welcome. Yes, I have trained Mya myself. For house training I took her out often with my older dog, I introduced her to the piddle pads. I found the piddle pads work best if you dab a tiny amount of the dog's urine in the middle of the pad. . I always show her where the pads are especially after waking, playing, eating or drinking. I try to keep her on a schedule. I found in my past experience with dogs that they are more relaxed with a schedule. Oh, and a little secret I discovered years ago is that even if you clean the carpet (with a safe nice smelling cleaner)after a dog has piddled on it, spray it with perfume and they will not use that spot again. It has worked with all 9 dogs that I have fostered. Just buy some inexpensive perfume that you like the scent of. Mya is always in my sight unless she is in her little gold cage. She loves her travel bag and goes in it when at home That helps to keep track of her. I don't work outside the home so I was able to devote hours a day to her training giving her lots of praise when she does something right. I have tried to upload pics, even reducing them to 72pixels and making them 1"x1" but I got the text message that they are too big. Regards, cyn Driving the grammatically correct insane, one posting at a time. |
