My first time on here 1 Attachment(s) Hi everyone, I just found this sight. On April 8th we were adopted by our first Yorkie. Bandit is now 12 weeks old and 3 pounds of trouble! He was named Bandit because he stole our hearts! We LOVE him. We also have a Lab and Bandit likes to stick his head into Rusty's mouth! They get along great. Housebreaking is a bit of a challange because he pees a tablespoon's worth every time I turn around... any suggestions? |
dianne Hi Welcome to the site Im a new member to. STill trying to figure out the site. Bandit is just gorgeous Im waiting to get my new yorkie baby in about 5 weeks so im very excited to. we have named her prudence. |
Welcome to YorkieTalk, teri88 and Bandit, and dianne (and soon to be Prudence) as well! Housebreaking is hard, we just let our Yoda out every 15 to 20 minutes if possible and we used pee pads to train him. Everytime he would pee in the right area, we would lavish him with praise and give him treats. It took many months, but he did finally figure it out. Good luck! |
welcome to yorkie talk .your bandit sure is cute .my name is Phoebe and i have a male and his name is scrappydoo but i call him scrappy .and he is 7lbs and 5ounces and he is a year and a half old . :) |
You will learn so much here about your new baby. I have a male yorkie named Tucker and he is 18 weeks old! Welcome Bandit and terri88. :) |
Welcome! Bandit is too cute! We trained Lucy to go outside, we didn't even need to use pee pads with her she was so good! We did a similar thing to Fasteddie, let her out often and praised her when she went :p |
Thanks for welcoming us everyone! I will be patient with the housebreaking. My daughter originally wanted to call him scrappy! I wanted Puddles! I'm looking forward to making friends on the site and hearing about other Yorkies. I had no idea they were so darling! |
My males wear a bellyband in the house and they get taken to the wee wee pad after they wake up, after they eat, after they play and every hour at a minimum. I do not have an outside area so we have an area inside. Puppies cannot control their bladder function until they are a little older (usually 6 months) so you cannot expect great results until then. Congratulations, good luck and welcome to YT! |
Welcome!! Bandit looks adorable. My little boy will be 5 in June. When I was potty training him I took him outside every 30 minutes or less. The less was if he woke up from a nap, drink a bunch of water, eat, played or was in any way active. Congrats on the new addition!!! |
Hi and welcome!! Bandit is very cute!! Another suggestion to help with potty training is to feed him on a schedule. Leave food and water down for certain periods of time. But also give water if you can tell the pup is thirsty or was just playing hard or running around. Some people don't agree with this method of feeding on a schedule, but I've used it and it's worked pretty well. I leave water out though. |
bandit--- i LOVE why u named him bandit! cute idea! |
Welcome Teri! from feliz & deborah |
Welcome Teri to yt here you will fit just right in I love your fur baby!:) |
:yorkietal Welcome to Yorkietalk! Your baby is such a cutie |
Welcome to YT Teri and Bandit. He is so adorable. Well 12 weeks old is pretty young to be completely housetrain. Everyone has given you great advise, so I can only add once again to be consistent and patient. Good luck. :) :aimeeyork |
Bandit is so so cute! Welcome to YT! The key to housebreaking is containment, consistency and watchcare! You have to contain your puppy in a certain restricted area of your home. Do not let him roam free. You have to consistently take him out on a regular basis. At 12 weeks, he probably has to go out every 30 - 45 minutes. As he matures and his bladder can go for longer periods you'll be able to go out less. If you're using a pee pad then place him on the pee pad at the same intervals. Bo is 6 months old and goes out every hour to hour and a half. He is able to hold it all night now. As for watchcare, never let him out of your sight unless he's crated or in a pen. When you're playing with him don't let him sneak behind the couch or under a table and pee. That's what they do. They try to find a private place. If you see him start to squat, scoop him up and take him to the pee pad or outside. Good luck. |
Welcome Teri and Bandit!!! I love his name! :yorkietal |
Hello Teri and welcome to YT! Your little Bandit is darling and I love how you chose the name! The only thing I have to add about potty training...if you are outside training...always take him out the same door. Eventually, when he has to go, he'll head for that door and you'll know he needs to go out. Best wishes...have fun! |
Hi and welcome!! Bandit is very cute!! |
