Question About Doggie carts (wheelchairs) Hi Everyone, I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried to build a wheel chair for a dog before? This is something I am going to attempt this weekend. I have gone to all the websites and there is only 3 that can make the front wheeled carts. Eddie's wheels , doggon carts and there is one more. I went to handicappedcarts for help and they helped out a lot. I got instructions on how to make a cart from there. But I would love to be able to talk to someone that has made a front wheeled cart or if they have one if I could see a pic of it. I called someone in Texas last night the makes carts out of PVC pipe, but she can't make a front wheeled cart. I know there is some creative people on this site so please any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I am trying to make a care for Babybear. The little one that broke his neck. Well he is trying to stand with his hind legs when I pick him up. I let him stand for a few minutes. We have gotten up to 5 minutes. YAHOO. But I called the vet and he said it was time for a cart, because Babybear will start moving forward if he can stay there a little while. I would like him to work his front legs too. So the cart would be great for him. Thank you for listening and thank you for your help always. Val and Babybear The reason I would like to make my own cart is because the price of the carts are outragous. Over 400.00 and I have heard some testimony that some dogs only need there carts for a short time. And they don't lease or rent front wheeled carts. They have to be specially made to the one dog and the one dog only. |
Sorry I can't help but I wanted to say that I hate the fact that you even have to have one. Good luck with it. Is this something that he will need just for a little while or the rest of his life? Sorry if you've already posted this somewhere I might have missed it. |
Hi, Hopefully he will only need it for a few months, but then again it all depends on how he heals. He is trying to stand with his back legs which is a good sign. I am working on the front now. He has just started to move his front legs on his own. So keep your fingers crossed for us please. Val and Babybear |
Sorry i can't help, but i want to wish you and you little one the best of luck, hopefully he will only need the cart for a short time! ;) |
I just found and read about his accident and am so sorry :( but what a lucky guy he is to have you. All the best and here's a few sites for you to look at - even if only for the pictures so you can make your own wheelchair - and have you tried little diapers on him ? I read in your post he was getting a rash - is that better ? That's a shame those carts sell for so much - so much for caring about the DOGS that need them when they're priced out of this world ....I swear if I were an inventer or mechanically inclined and could make them myself - I'd give them away practically free because any dog that needs them has already wracked up a ton in medical bills - http://www.dogmobile-online.com/ http://www.handicappedpets.com/ |
