Thanks everyone. I keep thinking this thread will die, and someone will post a kind reply. I guess you really aren't tired of my overpromotion of my pups! LOL. melmel84, taking pictures of Yorkies is the hardest thing to do in the world! I have the same problem when I try to get portraits of them. They don't sit still. I've just taken so many action shots that I have it down to a formula. Try this: * The most important thing is to have a camera with a sports auto setting and to wait for a sunny day. If you have a "burst" mode to shoot 3 pictures rapidly, set it on that too. * Then "pre-focus" on a spot by holding your shutter halfway down. * The easiest thing to do is to sit-stay your Yorkie and then call him/her. Follow them through the viewfinder. As they run past your pre-focused spot, click the shutter the rest of the way. * If you don't have a sit-stayer but can walk off-leash, just keep an eye on them. When they stop to pee or sniff, walk a few steps ahead. When they finish, call them and do the same thing. Snap the picture when they hit the spot you've prefocused on. The faster you can get them running, the more animated their expression is going to be. * Lastly, getting low so you're shooting at Yorkie perspective helps. And closer is almost always better. * An alternative is to have a better camera that autofocuses quickly. Mine, a Canon Digital Rebel, does that. But I still think you can get good action with a regular point-and-shoot digitial. Good luck! |
