Newbie - Hi !!! 1 Attachment(s) I am a newbie, I just got my sweet yorkie "Honey" last week. She is 6 mths old and the cutest thing (at least I think so). I also have a Lhasa and a boxer and she gets along great with both. Honey is having some potty training troubles, but we are working on them. I took her on Monday to get spayed and the vet said she also needed her dew claws removed since it wasn't done when she was a newborn. What do you all think about that? Also, she is 6 mths old and her ears don't stand up, do you think there is still a chance that they will? She is adorable either way. I am in San Diego, I noticed there are a few others on the board, maybe we can get together for a puppy playdate. Stacie |
Hi Stacie and welcome to you and Honey. Congrats on a new addition to your home! Schatzie's dew claws were not removed either and will be done when she is spayed. Yes, I feel it should be done by the breeders when the pup is really young. I've heard sometimes the pups are just over looked ?? I find that to be a bad excuse but ?? Potty training takes awhile so patience is the key and lots of praise. I used to live in the San Diego area (El Cajon) you are so lucky to have the ocean. Honey is a cutie!! And again, Welcome to Yorkie Talk :p |
Welcome....she's a cutie... My Caesar is 6 mo old and his ears aren't standing either. He is lazy. If I push on the back of them when he is concentrating on something he perks them right up. When I start to take his harness off over his head he stands them straight up. There are other post about people massaging them and that worked also others talking about taping them but I took his tape off. It was just too rough, pulled his hair out. They did suggest painters tape (blue) maybe I will try that. I don't trim his ears as much as I should so I am sure that doesn't help. I didn't really care too much until I got Cleo. I got her at 10 1/2 weeks just like Caesar and hers are straight up. Caesar has dew claws and Cleo doesn't. I haven't had his neutered yet but would remove them when I do. He caught his on a blanket and yelped. Oh well, Welcome again and I know you will just love this place. |
Welcome!!! |
Welcome! Honey is adorable! Potty training can be so hard - we are in the middle of it with our five month old. CONSTANT supervision is what is working for us right now. |
So cute! She really, really is adorable!!! :) Sully (8mo.) says hello to Honey! And welcome to YT....don't worry, you'll be addicted before you know it. LOL |
Honey IS "the cutest thing!" Welcome to YT & glad to hear your newest family member is getting along with everyone! What would the puppy stage be without the potty training  - WONDERFUL, I think!! :D Hang in there, it does take patience, consistency & as aimee said CONSTANT supervision! |

Hi Stacie and welcome to you and Honey. |
Hi STacie! I'm in San Diego too! There is a yorkie meetup group here and there is a meet up this weekend in Pacifc Beach! Sedn me a PM and I will find the info and give it to you. Where abouts in SD are you? I am in the west Rancho Bernardo area known as Santaluz, bordering Rancho Santa Fe. Honey is adorable! |
Welcome to YT Honey amd mom. Honey is adorable, a cutie. You will loove it here. :) |
Hi and welcome to YT to both of u, Honey is adorable and i somehow like the floppy ears, it suits her... shes a pretty baby! |
Welcome!!! Your little one loks like a real sweetie! :D With the ears standing up, I know a lot of people on here have had success with taping and massaging the ears (we probably would have massaged Lucy's ears if I had found this site when she was a pup). All we did was make shure the hair around her ears was short and that worked just fine. :animal-sm |
Hi Stacy! Honey is a sweetie! My Bo is also 6 months old and his ears flop too. I love them just the way they are. |
Thanks Everyone! 1 Attachment(s) Hi, Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and the compliments on my Honey. I am already addicted to this site, I find myself sitting at the computer for a long time reading old posts, when I should be doing other things. Oh, well! I did have Honey spayed on Monday and they removed the dew claws at the same time. I feel so bad for her, she has stitches on every leg and on her little tummy. She doesn't like the cone at all, but who would. It doesn't seem to slow her down though, she is right there with the other animals playing. Does anyone have a tip on how to get them to hold still for the hair trimming around the ears. I had been trying to trim the hair, thinking maybe it was to heavy, but she just doesn't like me messing with them. Stacie & Honey |
