introducing diddy 1 Attachment(s) hi everyone i'm new to the forum. just wanted to introduce diddy. he is 16 weeks old. |
Hi Liz, welcome! Diddy is darling! I like the name. Where are ya from? |
thanks. i'm from the bay area, california. |
What a cutie! Welcome, I can't wait to see more pics and hear your stories! |
Welcome :) Diddy is cute!!! |
Welcome to YorkieTalk, Liz. Diddy is adorable!! Post more pics ... birthday ... weight ... personality??? Yorkie lovers have inquiring minds!! ;) |
1 Attachment(s) here's another picture of diddy. this was the first day i brought him home from the breeder on july 27. i got him when he was barely 8 weeks old. he was so scared and missing his mom and littermates. for the first few weeks he cried so much in the pen and in his crate. now he sleeps next to my bed in his crate and he is fine. he is so sweet. he always sleeps on my lap with his little head on my hand. he is really smart too. he pottys on the pad most of the time and is doing great with crate training. i am trying to work on having him go potty outside. he will pee sometimes but not poop outside. u guys have any ideas with transitioning to outside? i tried bringing the pad outside but it didn't work. also, i am having trouble with the leash. he needs to get used to it more because he tends to stop and smell everything on the ground and will not move. i work from 8 to 5 everyday but am able to come home at lunch to feed him. he knows sit, shake, and go potty. now the only things he needs to work on is no bite. he is getting the hang of it. although he loves attacking my fingers, toes, and clothes. i replace those with his nylabone. also, he is working on no growl, no cry, and no bark. he is greatly progressing. other behaviors he needs work on is eating his poop and humping. i usually take away his poop right afterwards so he has no access and as far as humping i tell him no. he starts his puppy kindergarten at petsmart tomorrow so hopefully it'll help. as far as his health he is ok except that he has ear mites and he is getting treatment. also, he has an umbilical hernia and undescended testicles which he will probably go into surgery when he is neutered when he turns 1 in june. i hope all goes well with that. i've gotten so attached to him. he has brightened up life and brought me joy. |
oh yeah his birthday is on june 4 and he weighs about 2 pounds 2 oz. he goes to the vet again tomorrow for his rabies and bordatella shots. he loves seeing people and other dogs. he gets so exited. he is so friendly and likes to lick. |
Welcome He sounds like a very smart puppy...I love his pics too...Yorkies are sooo cute at any age. :D They brighten up everyone's life with their little personalities. Can wait to see more pictures. My furbaby's name is Cookie. She is 5 months old, weighs 3 lbs and she sure knows how to make everyone around her melt with love. :) So I have been trying to work on 'shake' or 'paw' w/ her but she's too busy trying to play with my hand when I hold her paw. How did you go about it? Welcome Liz and Diddy ;) -RubyC |
thanks. aww cookie is so cute. the way i taught shake to diddy was i would take his paw and say shake and good boy. then i would give him a treat. i did that a few times and he caught on. at first he would bite my hand and still does on occasion hehe. when he does that i would say no bite and give no treat. then when he would do it without biting, i would praise him a lot and give him a treat. today i taught him "go down". i would say sit and he would sit. then i said go down and go on my knees with a treat. i did that a few times. he caught on fast. he is such a quick learner. |
Nice training methods liz! Always fun to teach a Yorkie tricks. Junebug's BANG trick is one of my favorites! See: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ght=bang+trick |
Liz, Diddy is so smart! It's so much fun to teach them things when they catch on fast! Toto doesn't bark except occasionally when she plays. We broke her of that in one afternoon ... we read in one of our training books that when they do something you don't like, you in turn do something that they don't like! The method is ... when they are in their crate and they bark, simply tap on the crate with something metal and they HATE that sound! It only took about 6 times and she never did it again! [you don't have to tap hard ... just a gentle tap will do it]. Also ... the biting and chewing ... when he does that just make sure you hand him something that it's OK for him to bite and chew on! That worked for Toto ... she is 14 months and still wants to chew a lot at times ... we just make sure she has something handy that she loves to chew! Good luck! ;) |
Liz: Thanks for the tip.... :D We will keep trying. He really is a fast learner!!! Fasteddie: Does Yoda still do the BANG trick? I'm gonna have to try that one too.... :p -RubyC |
Diddy welcome to YT. Your baby is adorable and sounds very much loved. Keep the stories and pictures coming!! |
Yup, anytime he's on the floor and we put our finger in the gun motion and go BANG!, he lies down on his back! Once ya train them, they don't forget... It's my favorite trick Yoda does (thanks Junebug!!!). I'd still like to teach him to shake hands and some other stuff. |
Welcome Liz! Diddy is so cute hope you like it here. I have just joined not to long ago and really like everyone and there dogs they are so cute. |
Welcome to YorkieTalk, Liz and Diddy! Diddy is a genius doing all those things! Higgins is so busy playing with rocks, I can't get his attention long enough to teach him much! He's not the scholarly type, despite his name. Funny though, he still likes to "play bite" Don's hands....because Don LETS him! He NEVER play bites my fingers because I wouldn't let him right from the start. However, he gets more treats from his "dad" who can't resist him looking cute. I play with him more because he has learned to sit up and beg for me to throw his toy and he knows I can't resist that. So I KNOW that little guy is smart! He knows just how to manipulate us to do what HE wants! ......and we love it......we're sunk......sigh......... :o |
Yup, Yorkies just know who to manipulate and how to manipulate them... not that it's a bad thing, it's the smart thing. Mom and Grandpa are most susceptible to feeding Yoda food, Daddy (me) is the one he can get to play with all the time, it's just funny to see him utilize his resources the best that he can to get what he wants. |
Diddy is so cute and welcome to yorkie talk. |
he's so cute!!!!! :D |
