Chloe's new friend.....Herbie the HEDGEHOG! 3 Attachment(s) Chloe has a new friend for the week, Herbie the hedgehog(we are babysitting him for a friend). She seems to really like him. Tink, on the other hand, doesnt know what to think about him, lol:D :D and Penny hasnt met him yet, and we probobly wont let her ;) Isnt herbie a cutie!!!???? |
Wow! Herbie is really cute. I wouldn't have thought of a hedgehog as a pet. Is he soft?? He looks like it. I always thought they were prickly. |

He isnt exactly soft and he is covered in spikes but that are not sharp. I can pick him up no problem and he is really sweet and used to dogs. He has 3 dogs at his home (and one of them is a yorkie) :) |
herbie is cute! |
Those pictures are great! |
oooohhhhh!! What a cutie Herbie is!! It makes me want one!!:p Chloe does look like she wants one too! How does Penny handle Herbie being around? |
TOO COOL ! What exactly does Herbie DO ? Do they eat out of your hand ? Can he sit in your lap or what ? I've never been up close to one of those.... though when Chanel's hair is a mess - I call her my widdle Hedgehog...:D |
Thanks a lot for posting those pictures! I'm German and I'm looking for the english word for 'Igel' for years. Now I know it's HEDGEHOG! Finally I'm going to be able to describe my adventures with those cute 'lil fellas to my husband. We had quite a few of them in our garden in Germany and one year we rescued 4 babies. :) |
AWW Shana how sweet of you to babysit and it looks like Chloe likes Herbie alot ..so cute ! |

Aren't Hedgehogs cute? My neice has one and it is always fun when she brings it to visit! |
I've never thought as hedgehogs as pets. Where does someone go about getting a hedgehog for a pet? I've seen the cage at Petco or Petsmart. I bought one for my class hamster, I think it was about $20. |
Herbie ROCKS!!!! Those pics are adorable but I agree, Tink kind of looks at him like he's dinner :) hehe |
HERBIE IS ADORABLE!!! where could you buy a hedgehog? i never see them in petstores!!! |
Awww! What a round ball of love! I just want to put him in my pocket! Herbie...you are a fluffy doll! Yes, please tell us where we can get a hedgehog, I might just want one myself too :) |

Yes you can hold him and let him run around supervised;) . My firend that owns him built a huge pen that they keep him in and they let him run around the house alot too. I dont want to lose him in my house or let Penny get too close so I dont plan to let him run around my house. They brought me a big aquarium type thing to keep him in and a playpen(that metal thing that you see in the pic) so thats where he will stay. He is very low maintence. You feed and give him water and an occasional bath and keep thier nails trimmed. However she wanted me to clip his nails becasue she is too afraid too and I said "Yeah right" lol. So we are going to have to take him to the vet to get his nails clipped. I wonder if a local groomer could do it. They would probobly think I am crazy, he he:D :D |

They said they got it at walmart for $8. Its like a little pen for small animals like hampsters, guinea pigs, etc.... |

My friend got her hedgehog on a trip to Nebraska. I know there are breeders for hedgehogs on the internet and they cost about $100 but you can sometimes find them locally for less. |
Your pics are cute and the quotes are even cuter.[/COLOR] |
That is sooo cute! :smhuge2: |

No he doesnt smell but they are covered in spikes so Im not sure I would get one for a kid, lol. He hasnt bit me yet but herbie is really tame and used to being held. Because of his spikes (they dont hurt but they are exactly comfortable) I use gloves to pick him up and put him in his pen. Im to afraid that I may drop him otherwise. Im not really sure how they bathe him, it doesnt have to be done often so I dont have to do it this week thank goodness. For food he eats dry cat food. I thought that was really interesting. |
