good job. I just love your videos. How long did it take to teach him that? |
What a smarty pants, must be that Alaskan air :) |

TeddyBear, this is the result of five weekly 45-minute lessons in a class called Jumpers. It's his first agility-related class. In addition to the class time, I work with him about 15 minutes every day. The hard part has not been teaching him, it's been teaching me how to teach him. |

I'm having to get a little extra tuition to help me move Dougal to the next stage of working more independently. AlaskaYorkie, Do you use a clicker ?? |

Yup clicking is much easier than shouting good boy / girl! But juggling treats and clicker can sometimes be a little tricky. My yorkies' little faces light up whenever the clicker comes out. I'm trying "shaping" a behavior for the first time rather than "luring". With shaping Dixie's the one who's doing all the brain work trying to figure out what's expected rather than just following the treat or my hand. You can get the trick or behaviour down much more consistently through shaping. Yay for clicking! |

Boy, I sure missed a lot yesterday when my computer was down!!! Very cool video - great job Eddie!! Cudos to the "fat, old guy" for learning how to do this and another round of birthday wishes to him, too! |
Hubby had our terrier mix, Nighean, in agility, and he (and she) loved it. He'd call out "time for class" and she'd come running! We're going to do obedience training with Topher first, then on to agility! It's great exercise (mentally AND physically) for dog and trainer. You've done great with Eddie! It's alot of hard work, but it's obvious that he's having a blast! :) Thanks for sharing the videos! |

I'm not sure if the "good boy" is good or bad. Last week, the instructor actually told me to turn down the volume a little bit. She insinuated I was startling Eddie. I don't think that's the case, but after hearing myself on the vids, I probably am startling other classes going on at the same time! |

At least in your class it's the humans who make all the racket! We have a senior class on at the same time as ours and some of the dogs bark loudly THE WHOLE TIME they're doing a round, which echoes loudly in a big barn of a building. I'm practically hoarse trying to be heard over them! I'm sorry to hijack your thread AlaskaYOrkie, but I've just got to skite a bit - - We had a GREAT session at agility class tonight! Dougal did his first clear round!! We went through the collapsible tunnel, over the FULL size long jump (90cm), over a hurdle, on to the table, through the tyre, SIX POLE WEAVE (which was only the second time he'd done this), and a last hurdle. It wasn't super fast but it was accurate! AND For the first time I did a three jump lead out. Dougal had to wait at the start of a series of three jumps, i walked to the last one and then call him - and he did it! I'm such a proud mama. |
