aww! thank you! that's really sweet. i'm almost in tears because i'm so glad i've found some people to talk to about my little boy... it's been a difficult few weeks!

hi there and thank you :)

i've posted about it in the general discussion section but basically i'm very worried that he doesn't seem to be affectionate at all. i know he's only a puppy but he seems to prefer my husband (who he only sees for about four hours a day) to me. i know that sounds really childish but no matter what i do i can't get him to want to stay with me. we'll put him on the bed and he'll go straight over and cuddle up to my husband and just look at me. i've tried looking this up on the internet but can't find any information about it at all and i'm starting to get very worried that i made a bad choice with him. i've just tried to stroke him now (he's sleeping in his basket) and he just walked away from me to go sleep under the bed :(

Badger is so adorable! I don't think you have to worry about how he's acting! Maddie wasn't real affectionate when she was that age either and she would also go to my husband and sit there and look at me as if to say, "Look at me...are you jealous?" LOL She still does that at times, but I just laugh! I'm sure Badger will "come around!" Best wishes to you!

that's made me feel a bit better. everyone says they're really affectionate and my previous experience of my friend's dog was like that but i guess he might just be adjusting. i hope so anyway

I am assuming you are the one potty training and disciplining him. If so you should be the one to feed him and give him treats. He is young and should come around. My Lexi preferred my husband over me for a while and now I can't pee with out her jumping in my lap. LOL Try loving on him while your husband is holding him. Maybe while your husband is at work take a nap with him. Lay on the sofa with him and just keep touching him. If he walks away, OK just give him a few minutes then pet him again, and so on.

I hope he comes around soon and you feel better.

thankyou. i guess i'm just freaking out because i'm not sure what to expect and i can't help compare him to my girlfriend's yorkie who was just the most affectionate dog ever. it seems to me that he might be quite independently spirited but then he does seem to enjoy sitting with my husband if he can. i didn't want an independent dog though and the breeder assured me his bloodline was made up of very affectionate animals so i don't know what to think. it's early days though and richard (my husband) seems to think that badger 'prefers' him simply because i'm the 'pack leader'. i don't know if that makes sense but i have been the only one feeding him and toilet training him (which he's done really, really fast. i was very surprised how quickly he got it) so perhaps he thinks he's 'got' me and he can focus on charming richard instead

do you know if the play biting is normal still for his age (almost 13 weeks)? he seems to do it a lot whenever i try and hold him during the day. even if i stroke him while he's playing, he'll turn round and nip at me. is that normal?

Very normal, but unfortunately you have to discipline him. When he bites you there are a few things you can try.

1) In a very firm voice say no biting, and ignore him for a few seconds, or distract him with a toy after saying no biting. (this is my preference)

2)Bitter spray on your hands

3) Take a can and drop a few beans in it to make a shaker. When he bites shake it. The noise will make him stop. (This didn't work with any of mine, just scared the poop out of them)

4)Lay him on his back and hold him there til he calms down. (which should only take a few seconds) and say no biting.

thankyou again. the tip about the bitter spray might be a good one. i do do that thing where i 'yelp' as in the inhibited bite but it hasn't seemed to stop him. that's interesting about what you've said about putting him on his back because when i try to do that, he struggles so violently that i'm worried he's going to break his neck. i've tried to do it quite a few times but every time i've let him go because he just won't calm down :confused:

My baby Bear was the same way, I was worried too. He seemed when we first brought him home to like our other yorkie Daisy more than us and paid almost no attention to humans. He did not want me to pet him, always would run off to look for Daisy, but than one day he became a little cuddle bug, he now lives to cuddle, kiss, tummy rub.... with us.

Bear is now the biggest love bug, Daisy was the exact opposite when a puppy she was cuddly, always on your lap type of dog.... but is now very independent. She of course is loving but no where near the cuddly bug as Bear. I think it all works out, don't worry they will surprise you. All the best!!! :)
