When do Yorkies go into Heat 1 Attachment(s) Hi, Lexy will be a year old on April 4th and she has not gone into heat yeat. I was wondering if there is something wrong or if it's normal. I would like to mate her but I know that I have to wait till the 2nd heat. Does anyone out there have Yorkie that took over a year to go into heat ??? :( Should I be alarmed or should I take her to the Vet. She seems perfectly fine otherwise. I don't want to be a worry wort. Please help out |
My girl was in heat on her 1st birthday. I thought she would never go in. It seemed like it took forever. I think it is common for the smaller breeds to take longer to go into their heat cycles. :) |
Usually around 8 months, but, just like women, it varies and it doesn't mean it is a problem. If you take her to the vet and ask he will tell you just what I said and charge you the office visit fee. Also, she may have and you missed it. Some don't show real noticable signs of being in heat. I can tell when mine are coming into heat by the way the others act around them. Do you have other dogs? My Mom and I have Yorkies from the same litter....their schedules couldn't be more different. Hope this helps a little. If they are less than a year during their first cycle they should wait til the 2nd one. |
Lexy Hi, Thanks, I am a little worried. Lexy is big for her breed she is 9-10 lbs but short and long. I love her anyway, she's our baby :p |
i dont weight has much to do with it. my muffy is smaller(size) than kirby and muffy weighs more than kirby. i dont u/s the wanting of such a small pup. i'd rather they be bigger than 6lbs. just my opinion. |

I wouldn't worry, but you could ask your Vet when she goes in for her year check up. :) :) :) |
It's not unheard of for some to go in at 6 months and others 14 months for their first time. If you're concerned about it, have your vet check her out. |
