Bertie 4 Attachment(s) Hi everyone, this is Bertie, my little big Yorkie baby! He is 4.5 months old and already quite big for a Yorkie, I guess. I got him when he was 8 weeks old and he has grown sooo much so quickly! Attachment 412937 Attachment 412938 Attachment 412939 Attachment 412940 Tell me what you think! He's my first Yorkie (and my first dog for that matter) and I looove him so much! |
Welcome to YT, my thoughts on Bertie, absolutely adorable. I have always had big yorkies, my now passed girl was a whopping 17 pounds of pure beauty with sleek body. My rescue boy is tiny to me weighing in at 12 pounds. A yorkie is a yorkie no matter what size they are. |
:welcome4: He is very handsome! |
He is a cutie! Welcome to Yorkie Talk. |
Too cute! Welcome.... :) |
Welcome to you and your puppy :) What a cutie you've got!! How much does he weight now? Our boy is 5,5 months old and almost 7 pounds and I absolutely love that he is on the bigger side. |
Thank you everybody :) we were at the vet just now and they weighed him - he's 8 lb now! Maybe British yorkies are a bit bigger than American? Everyone here thinks small - granted it's usually in comparison to other dogs, but still ;) |
LOL, no British yorkies are not bigger then American yorkies, we have a lot of big yorkies here in the states, you will find a bigger yorkie is more sturdier then the smaller ones. Unless you crave the under 7 pound yorkie you will see size does not alter their personalities, quirky lil ways, and looks that will melt your heart. What you will have is a slightly larger little clown. |
Haha, yeah, I was just confused as to why such a small dog would be considered to be on the larger side anyway, but I understand that it's a relative comparison to a certain standard :) I had a look on the British Kennel Club page, and they also state a weight of up to 3.2kg (7lb) as the breed standard. It's weird though, as Bertie's mother was also slightly above 8lb and she is indeed KC registered. When I bought Bertie, I was told that his KC papers would arrive at a later point, but I never heard back from the breeder about that. I don't mind if he's registered or not, but I presume he wouldn't be if he's too big? I evidently don't know how kennel club schemes really work :P And I'm not even sure why I am looking into this, I don't even care about his size or registration, I just love him :))) |
KC registration papers goes like this. The breeder's mating pair is registered with the KC, when that Dam has a litter the breeder registers that litter with the KC, if she has 3, 5, or 7 babies that is the number of puppies the breeder registers. No one can say at birth how much a puppy will weigh as an adult, and, KC is not interested in the weight of the dogs. The standard weight of not to exceed 7 pounds is if you are going to show the dog they cannot weigh more then 7 pounds. My now passed girl as an adult weighed in at 17 pounds and she was AKC registered. The reason you would register your dog was if you were to breed him, if he is not registered but the Dam is, her litter cannot be registered with the KC because your male is not registered, that's all those KC papers are for. I have to assume if you haven't received the KC papers the breeder did not register the litter with the KC. You can pursue the issue with the breeder by calling until you receive the KC papers. KC papers does not make your Bertie a better or a lesser yorkie. He is a yorkie regardless what size / weight he is. Just love that lil boy for the yorkie he is. |
Bertie is gorgeous, so happy for you :) |
