Just an update, I got off work this morning and went straight to the store to get the ingredients for Yorkiemom1's recipe. I mixed everything up and my little lady has drank 3 cc from a dropper! I will be on duty every 2 hours and keep everyone updated! |
Great news, we appreciate your updates knowing how busy you are with the puppies, thank you. Sounds like she was a hungry lil baby. Yorkiemom1 is a great breeder, in one of her posts / replies I know she wrote how much a baby should be gaining, do not recall if it was a daily weight gain. Looking forward to next update, (((hugs))). |
So 1st feeding 3cc, 2nd feeding 3cc, we just finished a feeding and she drank almost 6cc. She also went potty on me...twice these last two lol. I'm glad she is eating and already she is holding onto another 0.1oz. Only thing worrying me now is her crying. She's been staying close to mom and siblings, I have a heater set to 88 blowing into their pen as well as a heating pad inside just in case it isn't warm enough. I just read an old thread saying it could be gas? What do you think? |
Ok maybe she is cold? When I put her on the heating pad next to her siblings she stops, but then mom comes and moves them and she starts crying again. 😞 Should I maybe keep her warm myself in their basket for a little while? |
I have read all these posts & how exciting. But you are very stressed. I pray the little one will make you proud of all your hard work. Wish I could adopt a little boy. Best of luck to you & babies & mom |
I'm so grateful for everyone's help and tips and yes I am very stressed! I know I'm doing it to myself by worrying way too much but I'm just so determined for everyone to make it, especially her because she is so tiny and we chose her to stay with us. My husband has fussed at me for overreacting lol. I'm trying to reign back a bit. I am very proud of her for making such an improvement and of course myself for seeking out help and working quickly. Couldn't do it without YorkieTalk! |
So sad to tell you all that we had to put tiny girl to sleep a couple of hours ago. We're thinking she may have aspirated during a feeding and took a turn for the worst. I called an on-call vet who said to bring her in but then said they may not have everything to treat her. There is no 24 emergency hospital in our area. We had to drive 1.5 hours away to get to one and they said she was too far gone and gasping for air. My heart just hurts cuz I tried so hard to save her. Now mom seems to be looking for her and is getting more protective over the remaining bunch. Is there anything I can do for her to help her realize and accept there are only three babies now? |
OMG I am sooo sorry to hear this, my heart is just breaking for you and that sweet little angel. RIP sweet little baby girl. (((hugs)))) to you. |
Thank you. It is truly a hard thing to experience. Now I have to keep an extra eye on the others as mom adjusts |
I know NOTHING about breeding and wee tiny babies, I wish I did, I wish I could have helped you, I know about aspirating I was going to mention this to you but figured you knew. I am devastated over this, my heart bleeds for you. We do have breeders on YT, I have to assume because of the holiday they were not on YT to help you. Yes I would keep an eye on momma, she will be looking for that baby. HUGS |
Yes I knew it was a possibility and I spent tons of time searching through threads to find tips and if it was even something we were dealing with. I shouldve just trusted myself. I told my husband something wasn't right and he said I was overreacting and stressing myself out. She was eating, going potty, gaining weight, the whole nine which is why I said maybe I am. But hey, I tried and I know what to look for and what to do if there's a next time. Thank you so much for your help! |
yorkiemom1 advises tube feeding, she has had many threads or responded to posts about this. She advises this is the best way to feed a non nursing baby, or a baby that is not getting enough milk. PLEASE read up on tube feeding, or if you have time read what yorkiemom1 posted. |
Yes I did do so and watched a couple videos about it. A tube feeding kit also came in my whelping kit. Of course by the time I thought about it I was already on the dropper very slowly and thought that was working great. I now definitely know better |
Great that you have the tube kit and have seen videos. Hopefully there won't be a next time. Please keep us updated on momma and the pups. |
Will do. My husband and I were also just looking at pictures from the birth and noticed that even then get skin/ fur looked slicked down showing signs of dehydration that we mistook for her not being cleaned off correctly before her brother which is the largest started making his appearance only 10 minute later. Her umbilical cord and placenta were trapped behind his. Looks like my poor girl started out at a great disadvantage that seemed to quickly go away and come back with a vengeance. It will be a long while before we see another litter and it won't be from this momma as she is getting old and we plan on spaying her sometime this new year. Gives us plenty of time to do more research and be better prepared. Although reading and watching everything helps out, it's the actual experience where you seem to learn the most |
