New baby Lucy Hi, I am so thrilled to be getting my new female 6 weeks old yorkie on 9/13....her name is Lucy ;) I purchased the Modern Apartment. I need the best advise for potting training. I moved in with my boyfriend last year so this has to be a success on training lil Lucy or we may be homeless...lol Gagurl61 |
Please tell me that baby is not going to be 6 weeks old when you get her! Yorkies SHOULD remain with mommas until at least 12-16 weeks old, to allow MOMMA YORKIE to teach and interact with her baby, which promotes development of a well rounded, emotionally stable baby. The first RED FLAG for anyone buying a Yorkie, perhaps a puppy of any kind, is a "breeder" that dumps immature babies as quickly as possible on new owners.....this is the practice that ensures the person doing the breeding, makes the most money from each baby.....they dump babies before the have to spend money on food, shots, etc. If they are vaccinating before 8 weeks old, those shots are useless, as they are over ridden by the natural immunity that is still residual in baby until 8 weeks old. |
Thank you for your concerns. The breeder in no way was she trying to dump her babies by any means. When I visited, they were 4 weeks old....the breeder said that I had to wait a few more weeks until she was weaned from her mother. I didn't feel pressured at all. I could tell this lady loved her babies. Do you have any potty training tips? |
Can I say something on this subject...we got Max at 7 weeks being told he was 8. I had no idea that was too young to leave mom. But now he has major separation anxiety when I leave even for a quick bathroom break. I ordered groceries online since we got him because that long trip away freaked him out. It was my birthday so we went out to eat. He was 9 weeks old at the time. I came home to a hysterical puppy that took 1/2 hour to calm down. Had he stayed with Mom I believe this wouldn't have been a problem. He grew up and matured enough at 12 weeks I can go to the mailbox without a issue, run to feed the birds outside ect . 1/2 hour trips doesn't create such a uproar anymore but gone is our nights out, shopping trips, casino night 😕. He is so upset when I leave I'm afraid it's always going to be like this. Im so angry at the breeder they let him go that early without a thought to his mental well being. FYI for the first month I got up during the night 2-3 times... Now at 13 weeks sleeping thru the night. Another good reason to wait to 12 weeks, their mom going potty with them outside is the best trainer. |
