New here- new to the breed 3 Attachment(s) Hi. I'm new to this forum, and new to the Yorkie breed. I recently "acquired" 3 Yorkies, after their owners dumped them. I have Vinny, who is about 2 or 3 yrs old. We have Lucy who is about 6 mos old. And we have Matilda, who is about 9 wks old. We think they are all adorable. |
It's horrible their owners dumped them, but you have gained such blessings! I'm new here as well and have found this is the best place to come for help with anything concerning Yorkies. Enjoy your adorable little ones! |
Welcome to YT, your babies are just precious. Horrible ppl can just toss these precious lil souls from their lives. |
Googling different questions I had about Yorkies is how I found this site! Just reading the answers has been helpful! |
Welcome!!:wavey: |
I always recommend a wonderful book to new yorkie owners...."Yorkies For Dummies" is a fabulous book that will have most of your questions and quandaries addressed! Congratulations on your new little family! You may not know it just yet, but your life will be changed forever and your heart and soul has been totally engulfed with all that is Yorkie! I encourage you to spay and neuter when they reach 8 months old, at least....that gives the bones time to quit growing and they have reached their very best potential! Just dont let them breed, as you have NO idea what is behind these babies in their genes and there could be some really awful conditions that are passed thru breeding poor blood. |
I already bought the "Yorkies for Dummies" book and have started to read it. :-) |
I love their pics! They look so sweet! |
Make sure to keep a hawk eye on Matilda for hypoglycemia, 9 weeks is really young. Make sure her gums are nice and pink, if they turn white that is an emergency room visit for hypoglycemia (these little pups can fade fast that young). A little bit of Karo Syrup is a stop-gap. Another must is Nutrical, if your pup isn't interested in the food you know she needs before running around you can use a little bit to stimulate her appetite, and then give normal food soon after. I know when Cookie was 14-15 weeks sometimes she'd start running around in the morning before eating anything. I gave her Nutrical a couple of times and then she went and pigged out on her dry food soon after. |
I also found the website "yorkieinfocenter.com" to be very helpful. Lots of good stuff.:) |
What a very cute & sweet family. Boy, are you going to have your hands, & feet full. |
Welcome to the forum:) |
Thank you everyone! I have already learned new stuff just browsing this forum! I'm not new to dogs- I've owned for the last 20 yrs, and have fostered for the past several years. I love ALL dogs, but was not expecting to be adding 3 new family members! lol I look forward to getting to know these guys! |
