Do you think s/n made your dog a lot taller I have been reading about how spaying and neutering too early can cause the dog to grow significantly taller that if you waited until after one year. It says that earlier than one year can make their bones longer and more fragile? Does anyone feel their dog had such problems n/s at six months?:aimeeyork:confused: |
My last 2 girls were spayed before their first heat, at age 6 months old, both dogs, legs were in proportion to their body. |
Buddybear was snipped at 5-6 months, I can't remember exactly but he looks in proportion all over, balanced. |
No. How are you going to know? You would need to something to compare to |
I've had dogs alters after a year and 6months. I never noticed problems with brittle bones. And i read an article like that. The significant taller was what 1/2" You wouldn't know?? How could u? |
There is research on medium to large breed dogs that the long bones continue to grow if spay or neuter is done too early - ie before the boney growth plates close. Having said that it is likely for the toy breeds this is not so much of an issue - although there are no studies that speak to toy breeds specifically. It is likely that the toy breeds close their growth plates at or around 8mths old. |
I had Trinket spayed after her first heat and she is 1 1/2 yrs now and she is still under 3 lbs and did not cause her to get heavy or taller. My tiny 2 lb Chihuahua was spayed after her first heat which was around 11 months old and she is going on 3 yrs old now and it did not cause her to get heavier or taller she is still 2 lbs 4 oz |
