Best age to pick up puppy from Breeder Hi all, I know this subject has been discussed and discussed...but I have read numerous articles Saying between ages of 8-12 weeks...and I have read from many people who got their pups at 8 weeks and they are fine...I am picking up my new Biewer puppy at 11 weeks and 2 days...thoughts? |

12 weeks is better. But theres times I've seen puppies that breeders didn't give all their time to. I could have done better by spending more time with the puppy. Since you said full time 11 weeks would be okay imo. 12 weeks is so the puppy can socialize with the litter mates and is should be eating well by then. Sometimes they don't at an early age. |
A puppy LEARNS an enormous amount of lessons from MOMMA and SIBLINGS during that period from 8-12 weeks....a younger puppy going to a new home, does not get the training that this pups own mother and siblings teach each other....the puppy will probably survive, but the object of leaving the baby that extra 4 weeks is for all the teaching that the MOTHER DOG imparts on the puppy.....breeders also work with the pup but momma is what counts for a complete, secure, well rounded out emotional and mental development. I can sit and watch these litters and the training momma does with them....you can actually see the wheels turning in their heads! They need this extra time with momma!!!!! |
