Zippy Lost SIX Pounds!!!!!! 4 Attachment(s) :D Zippy looks like he lost six pounds since I gave him a hair cut! Most of you know that I got a new dog after Turkey day, Zippy. He's a great dog! The time came for a haircut though, first dog I've owned that really needed a haircut, Gucci is more Robyn's dog and he just gets trimmed when and where needed. Well, let me tell you it's a learning experience to cut a dog's hair with clippers. LOL Reminded me of the shows that feature sheep sheering. Ya know how fat those sheep look before and how skinny they look after? LOL Well, that's Zippy now. I swear he lost 6 pounds! This is a work in progress, he/we needed a break after his torso shave yesterday. Here's some pictures of then. Legs and head will need to be with scissors later, he's not having the clippers anywhere near his head or feet. |

Great job Mark, Zippy looks adorable in his new Doo, I like the fluffy head and full tail. Gucci looks so tiny next to Zippy. Cody is close to looking like Zippy in the before pic, he's going next week for his crew cut, you are a brave soul for taking on the hair cut, Cody would wind up with a Mohawk if I took a shear to him lol. 2 little cutie boys. |
I know. Isn't it funny how skinny they are under all that hair. It freaked me out when I had to shave Galen. He looked like he was going to break. He looks so cute . . Good job. Keep at it with the trimmers. They do get used to it |
he looks cute and a lot like Lola. A few questions, did you use a guard on the clippers, it looks like you took a little to much off, if use one of the shortest guards he might not look as choppy. It is a learn experience and when I first started using them on Lola I did not know about using the little plastic guards that look sort of like a comb Also what about his ears are you going to trim those up a bit? |
just re read my post, did not mean to sound critical, you did an amazing job for your first time, each time I do Lola it seems to come out different so I am always trying to improve, it's not easy that is for sure |
Good job Mark, Zippy's new spring do is so much cuter. I groom all 3 of my girls, and clip their bodies even closer (no comb). I've even been clipping my friends Shih tsu in the same cut (she was a fur monster) and it is like shearing sheep :) Having previously had mini Schnauzers, that is the cut I'm familiar with. Looks good on all pupsters, I think. He does look so much smaller, and he will be cooler for summer, and not collect debris on your walks. Good job. |
Great job Mark!!! Zippy looks adorable!! I shave all mine down close....they look more like chihuahuas with the beards on their noses/mouths.....but the rest of that hair comes off, and when the temps hit 100+ down here, and they are running around in and out of kiddie swimming pools, the slip-n-slide, water sprinklers, they LOVE it!!! I LOVE his beautiful little plume-y tail!!! As long as I have been "shearing" mine, they still occasionally end up looking like they have ring worm, but we dont care, we are strictly in this for the comfort zone! |
He looks really cute with his hair cut. They do look a lot different after a cut. Peanut doesn't like his feet messed with either. Guess we just need to work with them more on that. I bet Zippy likes his shorter do. Great job! |

Gucci is tiny, time for a scale. 4 1/2 lbs :p We need more pics of Cody in here! Definitely leaving his tail alone. I need to trim his head though, practicing on his legs shows me I need more practice! LOL  |

And yes, his head and ears will be trimmed back quite a bit when I'm done. Just not as short as his torso. I loved his look as a big fluffy pup and we'll see that again next Fall I think. He really has been getting warm on our walks lately so that prompted an early shot at his hair cut. Thanks! :) |

I figure if I feel I have to cut in the Fall, I'll use a longer guard. Gotta have him plumed up and warm for some Fall or Winter camping/fishing. Has anyone ever heard of cutting too short and thereby damaging the follicles in some way? Robyn tossed that one at me, I haven't looked into it yet. I left plenty using the 1/4" guard thinking that if hell freezes over and the sun here would actually be out long enough to give him a sunburn, that the 1/4" would be sufficient to block it. :D A sunburn, here, in the Spring, just isn't going to happen! LOL  I really hope Zippy likes the water! He only went to mid torso in the lake sorta chasing ducks then stopped a few weeks back... He didn't seem too perturbed by it but it is cold right now. |
