Hello,

I am new the forum and to the Yorkshire terrier breed. We went last night to pick up our baby from a lady who was rehoming her. She was too small to breed as if you knew her you would agree.

We call her Laila Marie. She is 6 months old and weighs in at a whopping 2 lbs 7.5 oz. She is so small and sweet. When we placed her in the car I sat her on my DH lap and she ran right for his arms to cuddle. He is in love.

I don't know if it is normal but she seems really timid. I hope she was not hurt or anything, as soon as you come toward her she backs away or if you come like you are going to rub or pick her up, she lays on the ground or puts her head down. I want her rowdy like all the other dogs in my extended family. I kid she is just fine being quiet:)

I am glad I found this site as I see already how helpful you all are. We have all ready been to the vet and everything checked out A ok.

Be careful with the little one. Do not let her jump off things. I read too often where little Yorkies jump off and break their fragile legs. They tend to move quick and with one that small I would not let her jump down. Congratulations you have a great friend and companion!

Oh yes for sure. She will not have an opportunity to jump. She will not be put in high places without someone holding her.

Welcome to YT and congrats on your new baby girl. She may be timid, quiet, keep in mind she just left a home she lived in for 6 months, went in car with strangers, came to new surroundings, new smells, new ppl. Give her time to adjust to her new home, mommie & daddy. There will be other members coming along to share their advise and experiences. She is a lil cutie and a beautiful name. Yorkies are an awesome breed. Good luck.

She's a little sweetheart. Give her a little time to adjust. Yorkies , terriers in general, are usually a pretty feisty bunch.:)

Sooooo Happy for you that you have found a sweet little girl.:) We have small yorkies also and I discovered doggy stairs were very helpful. They have served the purpose very well in our house. Was'nt sure they would work out but our little ones enjoy using thier stairs and we have peace knowing we have hopfully prevented serious injuries. We actually have two sets. They are so cute when they go directly to thier stairs and go about thier important yorkie business.:)

Welcome!! I love her name and she is so cute! My little guy is very small too. I am constantly watching him. I have to admit I am very protective and paranoid with him because of his size. He is very spunky and so attached to me because I am home all day. I only let him up on the couch or bed when I know I can sit with him because I don't want him jumping off and hurting himself. It's like others have said that she's more than likely timid and quiet because she is in a new environment with new caregivers. Remy was like that but in no time he got use to us and his environment. The problem I have now is that he follows me everywhere and can't let me out of his sight. He also gets separation anxiety when I leave him. We are trying to work on that now because I can't take him everywhere as much as I would like too. Give her time and she will come around. Best of luck and enjoy her!

I want to thank everyone for the warm welcome. She is coming around and is starting to get attached. She follows me around more. I work from home so I know she will be attached even more to me than others. I am glad to see she is not the smallest on the board. This group I am in on Facebook, this lady hijacked the comments to speak on how bad tiny babies were. She had me ultra mad. But I contained myself.

She's just a diva in the making. :p Diva's tend to sit back and observe before they show their true natures. She'll be fine. When I brought Brandi home, she was the same way, within a few months boy did the diva come out. She was downright demanding :eek: Okay so part of that was my fault.

Also get doggy steps and train her to use them. I had doggy steps for the bed and couch. It took her awhile to use them consistently but she did eventually use them 100% of the time.

You have a heart for small dogs. They are adorable. That lady was rude and not a Yorkie lover. You have been blessed and will always have a friend and companion by your side. Great choice. Precious is the love of a dog!
