Hi everyone. I just got a new yorkie puppy and I think he's the cutest thing ever. Here's a picture of "Peanut". He's 11 wks old and we are working on puppy pad training. The question I have is: What is the best age to have him neutered? I know it will be a while but wanted to ask for future reference. I have had several female dogs that were house dogs and all were spayed. I want to have him neutered before he learns to mark things as I don't want to get that started. Thanks, Jan

As for your question, I believe I read here that it's better to wait until they're at least 6 months or older.

Thank you so much for the link. It gives me a lot to think about. I don't like the idea of him marking in the house but, I certainly don't want to cause him health problems. I guess it is best just to see how it goes later on. I also have a mini schnauzer female (spayed) that is 11 yrs old. She doesn't really want much to do with the puppy but at least she doesn't get after him. She just gets up on the bed where he can't bother her. I think she will eventually accept him (it's only been a week).

welcome Jan & lil Peanut to YT, he is one b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l lil boy. Consult your vet about the best time to neuter Sir Peanut.

Your welcome and the being ok'ed by the moderator thing will only last until your first 10 posts, it happens for everyone who is a new member. Then after the 10 posts, it doesn't happen anymore.

He is just adorable!! Usually, unless the kiddo is extremely tiny -- vets will recommend neutering somewhere around 6mths old or so. I believe I waited until 8mths old on all my kiddos. Ideally, you want to neuter before they start to mark, but neutering isn't always a guarantee against marking.

I will ask my vet the next time I take him for his shots. He is not tiny. He's a sturdy little fellow. His dad was a 4 pounder but mom is a 7 pounder and I think he will be at least that size. My vet says he prefers them to be a little bigger as they seem to be healthier. My husband did't want a real small one. he said he was afraid he would accidently step on it.

Thank you. We think so too!. Took him to the park today with our schnauzer. He walked just fine on a leash with his little harness. I've been putting the harness on him for short periods while playing with him to get him used to it and he is handling really well so far.

I had Bailey done at 5-1/2 months. The vet will tell you. The sooner the better. He is adorable. I love my Biewer.
