uh oh 4 Attachment(s) We are going to Florida in a few weeks and I remember all the sand burrs that daily got stuck in Huey's hair and the fight to remove them last time we went, so I decided that Huey needed a summer haircut since he was almost dragging the floor. So, today was bath and trim day. I am happy with his face, but the rest of him is going to the real groomer next week to get fixed. My groomer is not going to let me live this down-nor should he. I should have known better than to tackle a MAJOR style change. I'm ok at trims, but should have stopped there. If there were a "locks of love" program for dogs, I believe I cut enough off to qualify :( Poor baby. His legs and rump are a hot mess. In my defense, though, a spinning yorkie is very difficult to trim evenly, even on a grooming table. I have never mastered the art of stopping the spin! :D |
I think you did a good job. His hair looks great both long and short. I cut zoey's hair a week ago. Just her saddle. I was tired of fighting mats. I just grabbed hunks of hair and cut it off. Of course, it looks gapped but it also feels so good and she looks very cute to me. I have wanted to do this for a long time but I was afraid that she would look like a doxy but she doesn't, thank goodness. |
He looks cute. . . Don't worry about it. He will still give you kisses |
He looks good to me, that's basically how I cut Lola's hair. The main difference is I used thinning shears to blend the tan and black. |
I had never heard of sand burrs until I took 7 of my long hairs to my brothers beach property....OMG!!! That was the very first time I shaved all mine down....there was no getting those burrs out and I think they were getting closer and closer to the skin, so I grabbed clippers with a #10 blade and shaved them completely down! They had a ball after that! I had to watch them in the sun with no hair, but they loved the coolness of the cut and I loved no burrs or tangles in their long flowing coats! I have shaved them down ever since! They love being cool and I love watching them run and play in the kiddie pool, and then run and scoot and roll in the grass and the few small areas where I have a flower bed with mulch.....I think your baby looks adorable in his summer cut! |
Thanks everyone. I like it but just think it needs to be evened out a bit. Before I let dh see him the first time, I said"just remember, hair grows back" ;) |
I think you did a great job and he looks perfect! |
I too think you did a great job, Huey's way too cute also! ;) |
The hair cut looks great, you did a good job, and such a cute puppy |
You did good, he's still cute as ever:p |
1 Attachment(s) First morning at the beach, first sandspurs already removed from his armpit and foot. Should have just shaved him bald, but then I would be divorced  |
We have terrible sand burrs at the dog park! He looks great though....really great for doing it yourself. I hope you all have a lovely and relaxing vacation. You deserve it! |

I may end up divorced/single anyway...dh wants to take his new Hummer H2 onto the beach. We haven't even made the first payment yet. If he ruins the new truck, I will kill him! I have visions of it floating out to sea as I stand and watch helplessly...He saw a couple of vehicles on the beach last night and got the idea in his head. Sigh... |
You should tell him he can do whatever he wants with his Hummer, but from now on you call the shots on Huey's hair! I think the haircut you gave him looked great. Did you still take him to the groomer? I cannot imagine those sand things stuck in my furbabies! I hope you have a great vacation! |
Groomer has been out sick on the 2 days I tried to go, so Huey is still kinda lopsided and ragged looking, but I have found 5 sandspurs on him and for each one, dh said "cut it out". Really??!!! Not cutting anything, so far. |
You did a great job cutting Huey! I wish I weren't such a chicken. He's at the beach and on the vacation, he's so cute nobody is going to notice if he's got a few hairs out of place. I hate the burrs but not as bad as Buster and Maggie. |
beach pics 4 Attachment(s) Huey having fun. |
They do have fun in the ocean. I had to keep Gina on a leash because the tide pulled her out even though the water was only about 6" deep. She loved it. |
We are heading to the beach on Wed. These are the worst things. They are painful to try and remove. They hurt so much if they get caught in their paws too. |

Looks like he's having fun! I have never heard or seen sand burrs, but they look painful! We get stickers and goat heads here... Not fun either! |
Huey has the most gorgeous hair...long hair is very high maintenance. I have a dilemma w/Turbo, it's getting very hot here & I don't want to cut his long hair but I know he'll be very happy w/out it. His cut looks very cute, you did an awesome job! Looks like Huey is having a great time! |
